We did have a number of top loaders in UK in the sixties, mainly Hotpoint (like your Gala) and Servis (Wilkins Servis).

I know the Servis machine was exported to Aus, The Servis machine was produced in 1963 the model MK22, the last was the Servis MK55 in 1970.

Hotpoint Produced their machines into the 90`s,this is based on the filter flow GE.

The later Servis machine, MK41 onwards, offered a two stage agitator with a snap on Power Fin for a cotton wash vigerous action, 9lb load, H & C fill, 650 rpm.

Hi Mike I had already looked at your photos and notice you have a Simpson Delta we use to have one of those it didn't last for very long. We use to have a wringer washer I was very young I remember not being allowed to go near it just in case I got my hand caught. Then we had a Whirlpool washer our first fully automatic top loader I loved lifting the lid and watching it splash the clothes around. We moved house and had a brand new Simpson washer and dryer provided with the house late 70's with big buttons I dont know the model. Then a Delta followed by a Kleenmaid(Speed Queen) great in beginning then turned into a clothes shreader a Fisher and Paykel such a fun futuristic machine. I then moved to Melbourne and bought a LG front loader because of space issues and finally my Miele babies.

Steve I have never used a TT and have no idea how they work. I think with our water conditions governments should restrict machines with anything less a 4 or 5 star water rating please explain a TT to me.

T.T. Operation

Hi Jim,
A Twin-Tub is a machine which has 2 separate tubs a washtub on the left and a spinner tub on the right and basically once you have washed a load in the washtub you manually transfer the clothes into the spinner and start spinning the soapy wshwater out and start rinsing,How I do this is once soapy water has been spun out I saturate the clothes in the spinner with clean water and spin it out repeat once again and then spin dry, in the meantime while doing this,you start washing the next load in the washtub, the benefit of this type of machine is that you can wash and rinse/spin 2 loads at the same time.
Ialso find it to be a great water saver as I spin the soapy water from the first load back into the washtub thus recycling the same water, the same can be done with the rinse water as well.
The only downside (and this does not bother me),is that it is not a machine you can just set and forget, there is some manual work involved,i.e. putting the washed loads into the spinner tub.
I find with my new T.T., I can wash,rinse and spin a 6kg load in about 15 minutes.
