First off I want to say what a great group this is. While I have always had a great love for washers I have learned so much from the posts. My question is, and pardon my ignorance, what is the BOL washer? I keep seeing this term but not sure what it is. Thanks again guys! (and girls) :-)

I wonder how do you know which one is which especially after several decades have passed?

You can tell the difference just by looking. You will get the hang.
For instance most of the BOL machines don't even give you the option of water levels.
The higher you go up, the more selections, and fun. The top of the line of the really good older machines, with dispenser options, and also usually have back lighted controls and such.
When you see the different "levels" in person, it will be clear to you.

a440, I know my way around the biz pretty well but you did shed some light on some stuff for me too. I think back on some models that had a blank space where some of the same so-called model had a bleach dispenser. My Dad, who is a local legend in the biz, LOL, says that a Kenmore washer will have galvanized trannie where a Roper will not and will develop rust on it. He also swears that the coupling system is better made of a higher quality rubber than Ropers. You can call this one. Not me.

Wait till you get the anagram: MFCICFRINAM . Not for the faint of heart, nor the uninitiated, contains filthy language and represents frustration in the appliance restoration process, which is healthy to vent.
