This won't work for everyone and it's only because I ALWAYS stay in the basement when the early 70's SQ is running, it's so fun and different to watch. Now I get my hot soapy water right back as it spills over the side of the inner tub and down the drain!

The instant the overflow fill kicks in, I put the drain hose in the laundry tub, yup. There'll come a day I forget, but til then it's a neat little trick.
I've had the machine maybe 10 years without thinking of this easy trick!

 
Nice! By the way, you wouldn’t mind getting a quick video clip of the burner ignition sequence on your 1959 Whirlpool dryer? You mentioned doing something like that back in 2020 in a thread where the bearing for the fan on that dryer locked up.
