Quick Maytag Neptune question

I’m doing a repair video on the Neptune washer, I thought it would be cool to do a few wash videos while I was at it. I can more or less figure out how to bypass the door, but was wondering about the door. Because the tub is tilted I figured I would just remove the door, lift the front legs a few more inches to increase the incline and see what happens.

I don’t want to get too crazy fabricating something nor do I want to butcher a door on an otherwise great condition machine. What say you?

Good video.  The crud around the door boot though...ugh...how do people stand to let that go?

Crud Around The Door Boot

Hi Jim, what looks like crud is actually a brush like material that is part of the washer to keep small items like coins from getting into the outer tub. Granted it is dirtier than it should be, the machine probably does not see any bleach, but this brush material never looks very clean on Neptune washers.

Thanks for the note, John.  I've seen this before and always thought it was some kind of buildup.

 

My Neptune 6500 doesn't have any of this brush material visible.  Has the boot on the machine in the video slipped out of position a little so it's visible at the bottom?

My stacker doesn't have the brush thing either.

I believe the later series machines (5500/6500/7500), without the recirculating pump, had the brush omitted. Later machines had a sump cover to protect larger objects from getting into the pump.

I'd say bypass the door switches and take a video without worrying about the door.

I was able to get our 5500 going with the door open by bending a heavy wire into the shape of the door latch- it didn't make a huge mess but you may want to lay down a towel or two in front of the machine, you will get a little splashing in any case.
