Moral of the story: Never leave an old woman to her own devices.

I came home from work last night to find my beautiful Radarange dead. No clock, no light, no nothin'. When I politely questioned Mom, she said that she was heating water for tea and it looked "done" so she stopped it. How?, I asked.

Why, by pulling on the door!

I know the outlet works, so it's not that. The hooky thing on the right side of the door seems loose, but I'm not sure if that's new or has always been like that. The Start button is a little dodgy now, too.

Any ideas? I'm kind of hoping it's just a fuse or something, but I'm not counting on it. I don't mind taking it to a repair place (since I'm not the one who's footing the bill!), but if it's something I can handle myself, I'd rather. Otherwise it's "Fix it, and money is no object!"

It very well

could be a sticky door interlock, which deliberately trips fuses, as a safety measure. Otherwise, people would be turning green all the time.

Not a difficult repair, you should be charged just a little over shop/bench fee.

Read yer Yahoo sometime.

That door is locked when the oven is operating. You cannot open it until you shut it off. If it was jerked open against the locked latch, you got some fixin' to do. No doubt the safety fuse is blown, but it needs more than a fuse.

Oh, I sort of assumed it was going to be more complicated than a mere fuse. Still, Mom's footing the bill, so I don't care how much it costs!

P.S. To Lawrence: I don't have Yahoo. I don't know who you're emailing, but it's not me!

Veg...

This happened to me yesterday with my Radarange. I have a Touchmatic RR-810 circa 1984. I opened the door to reheat some leftovers and when I closed it, it went dead. This rr can be opened when its running. It just stops the cycle. Not the same as my older RR-4 which had the safety lock.

I opened up the side panel, which still had the original seal in place, and removed the fuse to check it with a meter. Yes, it was unplugged first. Sure enough the fuse was blown.

$4 and some change got me 3 new fuses at BLowes. New fuse in and everything seems to be OK. Don't give up hope yet!!

They are pretty tough----

I have a Radar Range from 1975 ----a fuse is not hard to come by.i know that there is a few places where I live that not only have parts for them, they fix them to perfection as well. Although Baltimore is far from Portland, Or, There is a way to fix it. i know that it can be done. :)
