Any ideas on good exterior vented range hoods.

I know Vent A Hood is good. Is there anything more mainstream that does a good job with high power and low noise? I think I've heard good things about the Broan Allure hoods.

Also I recall Sears had a Kenmore variable speed hood (I believe made by NuTone) that I heard is very good. Not sure if they still sell it.

What about those hood insert units that go under the canopy type hoods? My aunt has a canopy hood stainless steel insert with a Trade Winds blower system and infrared food warming lamps. It's from the 1970s, but she kept it when she remodeled the kitchen about 10 years ago.

I've seen some houses with the round NuTone fans under the hood too.

We just bought a Broan BCDF136SS for the downstairs kitchen. It's whisper-quiet on the first speed, but it really needs the 2nd and 3rd speed to remove steam from a boiling pot. It's a bit loud on 3, but it's also moving 300CFM (the box says the max rating is 375).

Rich likes it mainly because it will be easier to clean since there are no raised buttons. The LEDs are bright at the initial level and super bright on the 2nd level. You know, just in case you need to perform minor surgery on top of your cooktop! LOL!

Good luck,

Chuck

I bought the Broan Elite ERLE130ss back in 2018. Dual blowers 600 cfm. Luckily it was an easy switch because it exhausts straight out the back thru the wall where it replaced an el cheapo Kenmore(Nutone) and the difference is night and day. 3 speeds and LED lighting. Speed 1 is very quiet, Speed 2 you can hear and works well at catching almost everything. It's what I usually have it set to. Speed 3 is louder, but not obnoxiously so, and nothing escapes it. It's great for stir frying at that speed. You can feel the air being drawn towards it while you're cooking and I can see out the window the tall bush outside being blown from the force of wind it expels It was more expensive than I originally wanted to spend but in the end I'm very happy with it.

600 cfm sounds great. My OTR microwave does 350 on high and it's OK but I'd like a bit more, but I do like having 5 speeds. My old hood had a fully variable speed control and was great, don't know if they still make them with that option.

GE UVC7300SLSS

We have the canopy type hood in our kitchen with an insert hood. Shortly after we bought the house the light switch quit working on it. We replaced it with the GE UVC7300SLSS hood insert. I roast my own coffee beans in the kitchen under the hood and I needed something that would suck out the smoke from the roaster as the one we had wasn't cutting it so this was a good reason to replace it.

According to the kitchen folks if I wanted to upgrade to something more than about 400 CFMs I would have to replace the pipe and roof cap that vents it out side. I didn't want to get into all of that so I went with this one at around 400 CFMs. It works beautifully. Clears the smoke right out when I am roasting beans. Our insert is a little high to just reach up and turn on and off so the other thing I liked about this one is that it has a remote.

This is a great insert. If you are going this route I would recommend it.
