a little history,
I was told by an oldtimer at RCA, that RCA wanted to unload it's "Estate" brand appliances, so it entered into an agreement with Whirlpool to use "RCA" name with theirs and blend the lines into one and therefore at the end of the agreement RCA would no longer be in the major appliance business and Whirlpool would own all patents and everything belonging in the "Estate" line.
Interesting enough in early to mid 1960's in Canada, Whirlpool/Inglis, ask RCA to use the "Victor" name on major appliances to see if it helped increase the market share, this only lasted about 5 years and Whirlpool just kept everything Inglis.
However, Kenmore agreements were kept very separate, and secret. Whirlpool could not disclose or inter mingle Kenmore brand with any other Whirlpool Family Products, including agreement with the now defunct "Radio Corporation of America".
