The console is a nice

example of "modern" design, but who is the sweetie with the curl in the first snap?

New Vista Color

I had a round tube New Vista Color set in the 80's. was fun watching the old color shows on, Bewitched, Hazel etc. I had a cold bedroom in the winter and after about a hour on all those tubes sure warmed up the room!

no it doesn't now the person that helped me carry it in broke the back of the picture tube ....i almost cried cause they were never used....they were displays in mobile homes for sale

A clarification please. From you message I get the idea that these were used in display model mobile homes and I guess they were an extra cost option as you stated that some people didn't want them most probably due to the extra cost?

That would make them kinda like these "bonus rooms" you have in new homes. They are nice and the builder really pushes them and keeps the word "bonus" in front of you at all times. Then when you go to finalize the plans for your home only then you find out that the "bonus" room is going to cost you $30K!
Were these units then put in storage until now? It seems that this set is from about the 1967-69 era.

You just may be able to find a replacement picture tube for that set. Did the CRT implode when it was damaged?

whirlcool

yes these were like a bonus ....they been stored in the corner of a garage since i'm not sure how long.....they hit the back of the picture when bringing it in made a loud hissing noise

Oh yeah, the CRT is toast then.

I suspect there are members of audiokarma.org that could come up with a replacement or leads on where to find one. And probably more than a few would be lusting after that nice console.

Wow, another sweet combo. Too bad about the jug, but I think you can still get replacements.
Cute little doggy-wog, too. Is he a rat terrier? I'm not very good at recognizing breeds.
Interesting that those combos were used as displays in mobile homes. Some of 'em are as big as a double-wide!

Be glad

That CRT looks like it has the beginnings of a cataract anyway. That is when the laminate holding the safety glass begins to degrade. That tube's life was over before it broke.
There must be millions of those rebuilt tubes available.
You can check with Video Display Corp:
http://www.videodisplay.com/html/chroma.html.If you don't know how to install one - have Hank the local TV guy do it.
Make sure the flyback is good before you put a tube in it. Those sets had a bit of reputation of losing the flyback over time due to horiz efficiency drifting or the HV rectifier going weak. That puppy sure looks resurrectable. I wouldn't cry over the loss of that CRT though.

Danish Modern Lowboy...New Vista Entertainment Center!

I will check this model is probably 1966, since in 1967 RCA went to that strange 45 adaptor and not the classic round that your unit shows.

Nice piece of furniture I have one close to yours I think one model year newer. Shame that only Stereo is solid state and and tv is tube, it was not until late 1968 that these units became "Trans Vista" which were total solid state.

Only the well off purchased these units because of cost. I know mine cost $1350.00 in March of 1968, because the original owner gave me all receipts. $1350 in 1968 for a color tv & stereo?

You should be able to have it up and running in no time, I am fortunate that I have a 87 year old RCA repair man I found to keep mine in tip top condition. Please don't let anyone tell you it can't be saved, between my guy, ebay, and other websites we have found everything and more to keep these gems for a long time!

I don't know about yours you would need to look but mine the RCA man showed me where you could unplug the stereo from the tv and plug the stereo directly in the wall as RCA finally got smart and made them separate systems with separate power supplies and only used a switching system in the tv base to stop both of them from being used at one time since the only wiring they shared was the speaker system.

My speaker system consist of two large oval woofers, two mid size mid-range's and two huge long neck horns. I still don't think these speakers sound as good as some earlier RCA Victor tube units with big heavy magnet classic round speakers these seem to have much more depth than the "New Vista" series and later models, until the last year of production in 1974 when RCA came out with the "Showcase Series" which by then was too late and RCA shut down audio products division and only made tv's after.

If I can find my pics I will try and post, I will also look up sales spec sheets I have hundreds of them for these units, but because of detail sometimes I cannot post and would have to email them to you.

1968...

We got our first color TV in '68. a big Zenith with a colonial cabinet, $800 and no stereo, or remote. It did have push button tuning, two buttons at the top activated a motor that changed the channels, with a knob for the UHF stations. Haven't thought about it for years, but even now I remember the "thunk-a thunk-a" sound it made when you changed channels.

Here's mine,,,now show me yours!

Brian, still looking for info on your unit.

This is my unit, it is the last model year that "Victor" was used and RCA still stood for Radio Corporation of America, after this model year RCA was just three letters, in business and all legal aspects of the corporation thereafter.

That baby is stunning.

Your combo is gorgeous. Today's televisions simply cannot hold a candle to the overall beauty of fine items like yours.
Those older TVs will still show a stunningly beautiful pix even today if maintained.

Turntable

Drewz,
I see now how great that changer looks. Thanks again for the info you e-mailed me about my unit.I can't imagine someone replaced that changer with the BSR.Are those changers ever found on ebay-I have been watching and have not seen any.

$$$ Neighborhood's...Estate Sales!

Will,

If you really want to find one look at Estate Sales in $$$ neighborhoods, around here in WDC, most of time you find these still today in big estates in Chevy Chase, MD, just over the DC line. They tend to be an entertainment room of a house that has not be touched in years. As the owners get older they subject themselves to use only certain smaller rooms and that is how they still exist today. People, especially older are not likely to throw out things.

Mine, found me someone knew I was an RCA collector and this little old lady was going into a 55+ community and her condo had no room, so it was give it away or throw out in the trash. So for a $99 moving charge it was delievered to it's new home my house, till it ends up in my estate sale hopefully 45 years from now if I am lucky. So it's 40 years old this year! So by next owner it will 85 years old!

good idea...

I'll keep my eyes open. Another member offered me a '53 Zenith console, which will be a great addition to my slowly growing collection (thanks A!!!). However, I do eventually want a late 50's-early 60's unit. Preferably with an auxilary imput. Just need to save the $ right now.
