1968...

We got our first color TV in '68. a big Zenith with a colonial cabinet, $800 and no stereo, or remote. It did have push button tuning, two buttons at the top activated a motor that changed the channels, with a knob for the UHF stations. Haven't thought about it for years, but even now I remember the "thunk-a thunk-a" sound it made when you changed channels.

This is my unit, it is the last model year that "Victor" was used and RCA still stood for Radio Corporation of America, after this model year RCA was just three letters, in business and all legal aspects of the corporation thereafter.

Also, after this RCA would never use the word "Victrola" again!

Your combo is gorgeous. Today's televisions simply cannot hold a candle to the overall beauty of fine items like yours.
Those older TVs will still show a stunningly beautiful pix even today if maintained.

I remember seeing consoles like yours in the RCA dealers store. You have kept that console just pristine. Very beautiful!
And a strobe light on the changer? Now that was very uptown!

I see now how great that changer looks.Thanks again for the info you e-mailed me about my unit.I can't imagine someone replaced that changer with the BSR.Are those changers ever found on ebay-I have been watching and have not seen any.

$$$ Neighborhood's...Estate Sales!

If you really want to find one look at Estate Sales in $$$ neighborhoods, around here in WDC, most of time you find these still today in big estates in Chevy Chase, MD, just over the DC line. They tend to be an entertainment room of a house that has not be touched in years. As the owners get older they subject themselves to use only certain smaller rooms and that is how they still exist today. People, especially older are not likely to throw out things.

Mine, found me someone knew I was an RCA collector and this little old lady was going into a 55+ community and her condo had no room, so it was give it away or throw out in the trash. So for a $99 moving charge it was delievered to it's new home my house, till it ends up in my estate sale hopefully 45 years from now if I am lucky. So it's 40 years old this year! So by next owner it will 85 years old!

I'll keep my eyes open. Another member offered me a '53 Zenith console, which will be a great addition to my slowly growing collection (thanks A!!!). However, I do eventually want a late 50's-early 60's unit. Preferably with an auxilary imput. Just need to save the $ right now.

here's my 1966 rca victor vista portable solid state stereo record player off ebay with original tag on handle. needs new filter capacitor, lubrication, maybe a new idler wheel, but needle is still good.

now with the turntable swung down. sorry, but i forgot to get a closer pic of the tag and itz over my dad's with some of my other vintage gear. i took these photos to put up on myspace profile with some other vintage gear. since i still have them saved in my computer, i figured i can show you guys. once i fix it up, it'll be on the tube.
