I've seen no mention of RCA washer/dryers here and was wondering if they were only in Canada perhaps, rebadged something or others. I remember them being sold in the late 60's or was it early 70s.

Re: RCA Washer:

One of my Cousin's has/had an RCA Washer and their's was a Re-Badge GE Washer. I'm not sure as to what year it might have been Manufactured. It was a "MOL/BOL" Model that they owned. It has/had a Basic/Black "Flat-Top" Console, similar to the GE, without having the extra Top where there would be either the Hood effect or a Console Light area. I believe it has/had a 2-Speed Selection, Water Temp Control and Water Level Selection, but I don't think that it had any 2nd Rinse Option. It has/had a Spotted-Dark Basket and either a White or Light/Medium Blue Curve-Ramp Agitator and I believe it has/had the Self-Clean Filter Ring, because it didn't have the Lint Filter on top of the Agitator. I added both "has/had" because I haven't been to their house for quite some time now, since we don't live very close to each other and I couldn't just ask "BTW" Cousin, do you happen to still have your RCA Washer? I believe that they have around a 1970's Kenmore Dryer if they still have it, with the smaller Square Pull-Down Door, that has the Cables on it.

Peace and Happy Washing, Steve

Ok, what I know...(not much)

For a while here in the States, it was RCA Whirlpool, and then the RCA name was just on so-so electronics for a long time. In the mid 90s, GE bought the trademark, and put it on a line of appliances that were positioned between Hotpoint and GE. However, the line didn't really take off, and was discontinued a few years later.

(Incidentally, Radio Corporation of America)

Re: RCA, GE, Hotpoint:

Don't forget that the Hotpoint part of this Family of Appliances was also the JC Penney Penncrest, although I think that the Stoves/Ranges, at least the Gas Model's were another Brand's "Re-Badge" for the Penncrest line.

So any 60's early 70's would have been Whirpools (RCA Whirpools) . I didn't know that GE had bought their name later on but that makes sense because both names RCA & GE were sold to an outfit Thompson Consumer Electronics to pump out TV's and other radio gadgetry, neither being very stellar and still being mfg today.

RCA VICTOR

Don't forget about that. Even though it was way before our time. Victor Talking Machine Company was purchased by Radio Corporation of America.... To become RCA VICTOR

RCA => GE

These came and went here rather quickly. After all, GE has Hotpoint as its BOL line.

I have a hand-me down RCA A/C that is a GE. You can tell a mile off by the speed selector switch and the sound the thremostat makes when it opens/and closes.

Apart from the normally high fan noise level of a self-contained one-piece through-the-wall unit, this one appears to have a Non-GE compressor that is very noisy.

Whirlpool has Roper as one of its BOL lines, and that also came and went in a flash.

I still see ads for Roper appliances locally from the Rex chain of stores and Lowes carries some Roper lines as well

Ropers get used a lot as builder specials in modest new homes as well as plenty of apartment buildings have them in the kitchenettes but i'd be hard pressed to think of any local store that carries them for retail anymore.

Right on Pete!

They certainly exist, but seem to be scarcer (than at first) on retailer's floors.

Had a W & D set and they were great! They were a huge bang for the buck.

So far I have not had to worry about the cost of a bang. Or I should rather say that it is usually features delivered that I worry about not $.

Hurray For Roper!

Roper appliances are, in my opinion, the best basic machines around. My Roper dishwasher, fridge, washer and dryer--all in place when I bought my condo in 1999--are still doing an excellent job with no repairs needed. (That confirms the repair ratings I see in "Consumer Reports".)
By the way, I've seen Roper at a number of local stores in the Las Vegas area, including Lowes, Best Buy and R.C. Wiley.
Dead? Not by a longshot!

and now for my 2 cents...

Hey kidz...
I haven't contributed in years, but now that I have some free time, thought I would shed some light...
I used to work for the original Roper Appliance Corp. back in the late 80's...Roper's focus was cooking appliances, and was the primary supplier for Kenmore...formerly headquartered in Kankakee, Illinois, they moved the manufacturing and operations to LaFayette, Georgia, primarily for cheaper labor...the plant in LaFayette was considered state-of-the-art, and thus made Roper very attractive to both GE and Whirlpool...
After all the dust settled, GE basically got the plant, which then was manufacturing Roper, Kenmore, and now GE, and Whirlpool got the name...I suspect, however, that today's Roper range is merely a re-badged Whirlpool, and not a true Roper, although I may be incorrect...
See y'all soon...

Victor became JVC

Then Victor split off and became JVC and RCA became... RCA with the new logo that we still see today. Even the RCA Victor record label changed from the drabby orange or puke green to the classic black Nipper label with RCA in the new logo next to it.

JVC gave us big heavy VCRs and cool audio equipment.

Also, Victor Talking Machine/RCA Victor was in no way related to Victor Animatograph Corporation, later Kalart-Victor Corporation, now-defunct makers of well-built 16mm sound movie projectors and other audio-visual equipment.
