I can attest the Surgilators work well especially with ever so slightly under loaded loads and my new 1963 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII does a very good job are circulating things around even if it’s heavily loaded but I don’t load it heavily just for the sake of being gentle on the machine. The Surgilator hands down is probably one of the best agitators EVER made and I’ve used my Maytags and my Kenmore portable washer but nothing can beat the Surgilator even the Rotoswirl they used in the Kenmores of that era.

A little late to this thread...i'm in the middle of a home renovation and was finally able to get pics of my 1962 Whirlpool Imperial.
It runs great and really does laundry well. I use it once a week for some of our laundry and it never lets me down! Sean, I believe this is the model below yours.

Whoa! I have a friend who has the matching dryer to your washer! And that’s the model below my TOL Imperial Mark XII from 1963!

1963 Whirlpool Imperial Suds-Miser Washer
Wow Al that's in great shape and a very particle washer to use that you don't have to make many excuses for.
Do you still use the Suds-Miser feature.
Hi Sean, you actually have the matching dryer for Al's washer [ except for the color ], the one Richard has is a year newer. Have you found the shifter for the blower so you Can run your dryer at full speed, of course you can just leave the blower on hi-speed and use either heat input.

Hi John, I haven’t found a belt shifter yet but it still works on the super and normal speed despite the blower/fan speed not changing. It seems to be fairly quick on the super speed drying setting, and has more of a average drying speed on normal and I use the super speed temperature for things like towels and use the normal speed for drying things like t shirts and such and this is definitely one of the most versatile dryers I’ve owned in terms of temperature options.

Alan that is a beautiful washer. One question I have is about the bleach dispenser! I would have thought it would have been split in half as a fabric softner dispenser also but I guess not! Is it a timed bleach dispenser?

Yes, the bleach dispenser is timed. Whirlpool offered a few models over the years with just a single timed bleach dispenser. If I want to add softener I use the agitator mounted dispenser.
I haven't used the Suds-Saver feature yet. When I got the machine the suds valve assembly had been removed. I recently got one (they were hard to find on ebay for a bit, but then a bunch popped up) and will install it after our home reno project is finished.

Alan, that is a very nice Whirlpool washer you have there. I honestly thought there were no Imperial versions of my Mark XII but I believe you are the only one who has a Imperial version of my 1963 Mark XII on this site. Interesting thing is your washer has the same cycles and cycle times but mine has the push button timer and all of the temperatures are built in.

Shannon, the model numbers of your machines are coded for the year of market introduction. Serials are coded for the year and week of factory production. Cite the numbers for help with deciphering them.
