I thought I'd let you know I ended up with a Charbroil that I got at Linens-N-Things, of all places. I had no luck finding a lava rock grill, and the only ceramic brick one I saw was a 3-year-old NIB model discounted by a former dealer of the brand (Broilmaster).
I saw the Charbroil early in the search, and remembered it when I got a 20% off coupon in the mail for the store Thursday. I called to see if they had one, and they had only one, in the box, because the guy that was supposed to pick it up, didn't! They saold the display last weekend! When I checked to see if it was the one for $399, they said it was, but that it was on sale for $249. And, they could accept my 20% off coupon on it too! I didn't have a choice. The next best competitor was a Charbroil at Home Depot for $369. That one had the upper rack that hung off of the back wall with two hooks. The new one has a sturdy upper rack of porcelain-coated rod, and heavy, dip-coated cast-iron main grates. Plus, it has 4 main burners vs. the 3 the old one had, so there's more control over the heat.
I figured that for $200, I couldn't lose, even if I only liked as well as the one I returned. I did chicken on it yesterday for F Day, and I didn't hate it! That's a good thing!!
Thanks for all the help and input from everyone! I still have a charcoal grill here for when I have the time and want the REAL deal, but so far so good with the new gas one!
