Hi! I'm helping my Elderly Neighbor and long-time Friend, with his Maytag Portable Dishwasher, Model MDC-4000-AWE. It is way before the newer Taller-Tub Models and still works great for his needs.

By the way, replacing he Dishwasher is not an option.

All of a sudden a couple/few Days ago, the Detergent is getting wet and sticking in the lower part of the Dispenser.

He asked me to check this out on Saturday Afternoon and I've found that the Gasket sits recessed on what would be the lower-right of the Cover and it sits higher on what would be the upper-left of the Cover. When the Dishwasher Door is closed, the part of the Gasket that is recessed might be allowing Water to enter into the Dispenser, before the Cover opens to dispense the Detergent.

My need of help, because I don't want to do something ahead of knowing for sure "How-To" is about the Cover of the Detergent Dispenser. Is there some kind of a Hinge that will allow the Cover to be taken off and replaced?

The Dispenser is a part of the Molded Inner Panel of the Dishwasher Door, but it does look like possibly the Cover can be removed, hopefully fairly easy for replacement.

A few ideas...

It sounds more like you have a water spray issue. You may need to check your wash arm spray holes. If they are plugged, the water will not properly wash the detergent out of the cup. Also, make sure your wash arms are TURNING easily, esp. the lower. You may have to dis-assemble the upper pump housing to clean the hub and possible self-cleaning filter assy and back wash arms. Also, make sure you have enough water in the tub to do the job. When the float switch is satisfied, I believe the water should be right below if not touching the heating element. Good Luck!

What was checked out and deducted as being the problem, is because of a Flow-Restrictor on the Faucet inside the Plumbing, is causing a very low flow of Water.

I'm sorry for not Posting this info before. I certainly don't want anyone to think or feel like I was only wanting to deal with just one person for help and/or advise. I certainly know that this Site is to help each other out with our problems and suggestions as to how to get things operating properly again and what might be the problem, if we don't know for sure.

The Dishwasher has a sensor in it that allows a certain length of time {approx 2-minutes} to Fill. If it doesn't allow the Float to rise enough to turn off the Water to start the Wash/Rinse, the Timer will shut-off the Water entering and start the Wash/Rinse Cycle. This will naturally with a very low flow of Water entering the Dishwasher, this will cause Pulsing Water going out of the Wash Arms, because of way too little Water in the Tub.

My Neighbor is going to ask one of his 2-Son's to see if they would take the Kitchen Faucet apart, to check the Restrictor and see if there is quite possibly some Sediment in it, causing the very low Water Flow. When the Neighbor originally had the Faucet replaced {well mounted, by the way} the Plumbing Company here highly recommended that they look into having the Flow Restrictor installed. I'm sure that no doubt when the Restrictor was installed, that the Water Flow on both the Hot and Cold was pretty good. The Cold naturally is still pretty good, but the Hot is terrible, hence causing this problem with their Portable Dishwasher.

The problem has been causing the Detergent Dispenser from getting all of the Detergent cleaned out of it, because of too low of a force of Water running out of the Lower Spray Arm.

Now, the Dishwasher has a leak somewhere, that I'm going to have to try and locate. It seems to be intermittant, because my Neighbor let me know about it a little while ago and I ran the Dishwasher back then, without any sign of a leak anywhere.

I will certainly be glad to Post whatever I find out, as to what is causing the Leak problem in the Dishwasher now.

The original meaning is Regarding I think but is not used in forums or webpages.
