Listen Young Man!

Andy! You seem like a very impatient young man. Maybe a bit too young to want to start a live chat area. This by the way may not be the best place for it. Just stick to the regular posting procedure and be patient. Someone may respond. I will tell you that people tend to ignore shouting ( capital letters with lots of exclaimation marks ) and demands. Ditto for Vacuumland.

not getting off while chatting

No, I do not get off talking to a 12 year old - it feels too much like baby sitting.

I've tried chat a few times in the past week and it's been rather unusual to have 12 year old fella seemingly leading the conversation, and requiring CONSTANT attention by the chat participants, else wise starts sounding alarms or scrolling needlessly, or typing one word at a time then entering.
On the up side, I have had one or two interesting private chats at the same time, with other applianceland members of age and inclination.

If it were up to me, and it isn't, I think I'd have to up the acceptible age to at least 16...like a drivers liscense, or even 18, or 21...

We do fancy ourselves toying with adult themes here from time to time - and I am NO babysitter.

I agree with Bob's post above. Subject matter on "Super" threads can often create an "AYOR" situation for those who are under age but most of it is probably over their heads.

And yeah, veg, when I saw the title I was wondering just what I had missed in chat!

Oh you guys.....

I have to laugh! I never even noticed the thread title! LOL

Andy, as a parent and forum member, let me offer you some advice...

This is a forum for those primarily interested in vintage washers and dishwashers. We have two other areas; Deluxe and Super which allow many to discuss modern appliances as well as just about any topic that comes to mind. Sometimes these "Super" topics can be for mature eyes; not a twelve year old's. I think that just about everyone here is respectful, polite, and exercises decorum as far as their posts are concerned. However, even though care is taken, there are some things that were just not meant to be viewed by children.

Your mom should be supervising your computer activity. This not because you should not be trusted. It is because there are just things out there in cyberspace that you shouldn't be looking at when you are twelve. You should trust your mom and keep her informed of your hobby and the sites that you visit.

Now, back to the forum and the appliance chat...Since you are primarily interested in vacuums and are unable to access the Vacuumland Forum until you are 13, you may want to find other vacuum forums that you are able to post on. Vacuums aren't discussed as much around here since Vacuumland went online. You may also want to just keep in touch with your peers that are old enough to post on Vacuumland via e-mail. I know of quite a few young people there with whom you could communicate. It is important to stay in touch with vacuum collectors that are in your age range. Not only is it fun and interesting, you can all learn from each other too. Remember, you are the future of vacuum collecting. In order to be a worthy representative of that great group, you have to do a lot of listening and less talking.

If you handle yourself with maturity and discuss viable topics, the members of this forum will enjoy your contributions. However, if you are disrespectul, demanding, and/or childish, people will not find it a pleasant experience to respond to your posts.

I hope this helps you enjoy any special interest forum that you decide to post on.

Retromom....

Will you be my mom??? :-)

How beautifully worded. I almost called my mom to have her monitor my activities....then I thought better of it! <wink>

Dial-A-Matic....listen to Retromom. She is very wise!
