Why non collectors need to stay away from our toys!!

There was a horror story about a woman who bought a new in crate 1975 Magnavox console, thirtysome years after it left the factory. She proceeded to unpack it, and painted it "shabby chic white" and also painted flowers all over it. After offering it on eBay for $500 she received two blistering notes from two collectors of such things. One bought it, gutted the cabinet, and tossed the ruins of the artsy artwork. He bought it for considerably less than $500. I wouldn't have SuperFridge for $35, let alone $3,500.

5.00 for it, how hard do you think the Coldspot script would be to find!!! To me it would be worthless unless I could re paint it white AND have the emblem!!
 
The woman who "shabby chic'ed" the Magnavox console probably had seen one too many HGTV designer shows. They kind of push the "repurposing" of things like that.

One time Karen did ask me if she could paint my classic AR-3a speakers black. She said they wouldn't be as noticeable that way. They are still in excellent condition in a oiled walnut finish that I keep well oiled. I guarantee you, she won't ask that question again!
 
Karen sounds like a great wife except for that one thing. I have Infinity bookshelf speakers in factory black, and six Realistic ones in teak veneer. HGTV wore on me when they'd run those shows where you could turn a Mid Century RCA Victor Danish console into a patio cart, or the show where the two men would trash pick, and repurpose ranges, tv/stereo consoles, bureaus, I don't think the show was on that long.
 
You're talking about the "Junk Bros" TV program. I think it was on for only 1 year.
It was kind of a strange show.

I love it when those designers walk into a kitchen with Corian countertops and almost faint and say "Oh Corian, how middle class!".


And if I see one more room done in chocolate and turquoise, I'm going to barf.
 
"SUPERMAN" Fridge-----How RIDICULOUS!!!!You would have to pay ME to take it away-its funny usually see fridges like that at old radio-TV transmitter sites-the engineer manning the site would keep his lunch in the fridge-also at these sites you would see an equally old toaster oven,hotplate,and a microwave oven.these machines still at the sites--even though an engineer hasn't manned it in years-the transmitters new.-and operated by remote control.
 
Chocolate and turquoise don't do it for me either. I still play in the safe color range. The house that was left to me is bland beige throughout, with brown carpet in the main living areas. That is a little too safe for me, it's boring. Corian countertops are better to me than Formica or Wilsonart, and granite is great in new construction. My dream kitchen is an upscale late '50s early '60s that has been kept up.

 

My only real complaint with the Junk Brothers was their repurposing of the color stereo theatre. Yuck.
