Many modern front loaders have the rear bearing as part of a unit assembly with the outer and sometimes inner drum, that is they are a set. Rear bearings should not fail with normal use for quite along time. Indeed on better front loaders such as Miele the bearings last longer than the useful life of the washer.
There have been frequent complaints about the FriGeMore model front loaders, (sold under GE,Frigdaire and Kenmore brands) of bearings failing after four to five years of use. Because the entire outer tub assembly must be replaced along with the bearing (it is a set), the cost including labour was usually more than a new washer. One enterprising sould over on ThatHomeSite was able to take his washer apart, remove the two drums and replace the bearing himself, but it was quite allot of work.
