The last time I went to the food pantry I received two bags of dried cherries.  I need ideas/recipes for them.  I thought of chopping the cherries up a little with the food processor and adding them to a white cake that's as far as I have gotten.

They are

good in almost any place where raisins might go. They are a nice change in Waldorf salad. Or in carrot-apple-cabbage slaw. I like them in banana bread instead of nuts. (put a little of the dry flour on them, stir thoroughly so they don't completely sink, then add to the batter). They are great in trail mix. Or throw them into a smoothie or milkshake (frosted, frappe, cabinet)... Like all dried fruit, they are pretty high in calories, but also high in antioxidants and so on. Cut them smallish (clean scissors are great for this!) and add them to homemade Rice Krispie Treats...... Or, I like to put some of them in the teapot when I make tea, instead of sugar or brown sugar, or just drop a few into the cup.

They would be great in cookies - use them in an oatmeal cookie instead of raisins, or make a standard Toll House chocolate chip cookie and add in a cup of chopped cherries. Cherries and chocolate go very well together - so does cherries and almond.

Breakfast

Soak them in a favorite alcohol then sprinkle them over flap-jacks on the griddle.  Makes an awesome adult pancake breakfast!

Imagine the fun you can have popping cherries all day long.

I dont see why dried cherries would not work.

Cherry preserves ("jam/jelly")

250ml is just over a cup.
