I need to purchase new garden hoses. The ones I have now are all about 7 years old and I thought they were supposed to be "best" quality, but they kink like nobody's business.

Can anybody recommend a specific brand that will not fold over on itself and close the water supply off.

I don't remember having this problem before. Does it have to do with some new construction mandated by the government requiring that you can drink from the hose from the first gush?

Perhaps. Or perhaps it has to do with being in an era of dwindling quality.

Every outside hose I have ever had kinks mainly because of the way its wrapped up and molds to that when not in use regardless of what its made of. I found cursing at it and forcefully slapping the kink out and unwrapping it while cursing some more works the best. And then you can do what you need to do and water flows. That is until it springs a leak and then you curse some more, LOL.

About 3 years ago I bought a "NeverKink" hose by Teknor-Apex at Lowes. I found it to be the most annoying hose I have ever used. It was so unflexible and stiff, and very difficult to work with. I ended up giving it to one of my friends who needed another hose; he hasn't mentioned if he likes it or not.

I have had good luck with Swan "Soft & Supple" hoses, though. I've had a 3/4" for about 25 years, and a 5/8 for about 4 years. Both are good quality.

Last year I purchased two of the (can't think of the correct name) but they expand when the water fills them and contract into thin flat tubes when the water empties. They are light and easily carried around.  I doubted if I would like one but after using it I bought another.  There is no kink and the entire thing collapses after the water is out of it.

One thing is that I turn the water off a minute before I am finished watering to allow all of the water to exit the hose.  No sense just letting the water run on the ground.

I bought them at Home Depot
