Regular Detergent in HE Washers

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

detergent amounts

Bottom line is, most people's clothes aren't really "dirty", just not "fresh" anymore. Doesn't take much of any detergent to remedy that situation. I wouldn't hesitate to use "regular" detergents in reduced amounts in an FL machine, vintage or modern, in those circumstances.

So far I've used the following non He detergents,

Trend (very low sudsing, use for cleaning dust rags)

All Free & Clear (way too much suds at any amount)

Cheer Free and Clear Powder (great detergent for every day wash. Rinses well but have to watch dosage on terry cloth loads).

Cheer Free and Clear Liquid (very sudsy and can be hard to rinse. Use about 1 tablespoon or less as a pre-soak/wash for linens and bedding. Also use the same amount or less when washing shirts, linens and bedding in warm or cold water).

Launderess

I used the "HE" detergents when I first got my FridGEMore back in '97. Back then the "HE" types were more expensive AND I could not tell any difference in the amount of suds I had to rinse out----so I switched to regular formulae detergents. Since then I have been introduced to "FAB" detergent. It doesn't suds AT ALL! This is really important to me as my 1-18 will suds-lock VERY easily. It also cleans the red Georgia clay out of my gardening clothes VERY well, and comes in three "flavors" that smell really nice.

Ajax Laundry Detergent

Has anyone tried Ajax Laundry Detergent? It is two dollars and something at Wal-Mart and made by the same company as Fab, Colgate-Palmolive. It has directions for Front and Top loading and looks like a good basic detergent.

'Tide' is made by Proctor & Gamble

Tide is made by Proctor & Gamble... and Proctor & Gamble are the worst offenders of cruel and unnecessary animal testing.

I can't purchase or use P&G products knowing their reputation.

Can you imagine pouring Tide into a rabbit's eyes???

I can agree-think the Draize tests are no longer necessary. Its like DUH-you don't put detergent or other household products in your eyes-we all know its harmful to them. Why put it in the bunnies eyes when wee already KNOW it will damage the eyes?what companies no longer use these tests?I thought all of them still used it due to govt safety regulations. These regs should be dropped since anyone knows detergent and other things will damage eyes if it gets into them.
