Hello to all, infrequent poster here. Just thought I would share a few pics of my kitchen re-mod, and would appreciate any leads on a 30" coppertone electric stove from the late 50s to maybe early 70s. Appliances will all be vintage.

Also, I've installed a Kitchen Aid KDS-19 DW. No complaints on the wash, but it makes a metallic ring/buzz during the wash that sounds like something is loose. I've probed many likely suspects while it runs (solinoids, etc.) but cannot find the sound. I've yet to re-install the bottom panel, so I'm sure it will quiet down a bit when I do.

This shot shows the kitchen largely intact.

The genius who built this place 60 years ago put the "wet" (plumbing) wall of the kitchen on a 24" cantilever over the basement. In this part of the world, that means frozen pipes in the winter. It would not be a lie to say there were days when the sink (and dishwasher) couldn't be used! I can't imagine how this was tolerated before I bought the home. I moved all the plumbing to an interior wall, but first that meant a new furnace that didn't require a chimney (hi-efficiency). Here is the opposite wall:

It was easiest to simply cut out the floor (since it needs replacement anyways) and lay in the new drains and supplies.

Here is a shot of the new "wet wall" with dishwasher in place. I don't know how many of you have ever done this, but I boosted the DW up about 8" to make it easier to load/unload.

The stove will remain in approximately the same spot. The fridge will be to the right of the octagon window (where the tools are plugged in). The area between the stove and fridge will be additional cabinet/counterspace.

Eliminating the chimney needed for the old furnace frees up a lot of space. Do you also have a high-efficiency gas hot water heater that vents through the side?

Coppertone ranges show up fairly frequently. No doubt someone here will provide a lead on one ... or two ... or three ....

Congrats on the progress you've made.

I actually have a 30" coppertone flair range, which would be a perfect match to my '64 Frigidaire bottom freezer. But here is what holds me back...

I don't plan to keep this house forever. When I move, I plan to take my nice vintage stuff with me, and replenish it with shiny modern SS junk purchased for pennies on the dollar, via craigslist. If I install the Flair, a new range will not be a plug & play. I'll have an awkward bare wall and will have to add some kind of vent/hood or above stove microwave. Possibly another cabinet.

Not the end of the world. Also, what do I do to exhaust above the flair? I guess I could consider something ceiling mounted? What do those of you using Flairs do?

Yessir, good eye on the cabinets! I didn't see a brand on the wall fan, but it still works excellent. It will survive the Re-mod and live on in the garage.

Ring-a-Ding...

The sound you may be hearing from the dishwasher may be a broken cooling fan on the pump motor. They had plastic fans which often split and would make weird sounds especially on start up and if it was really bad it would never catch up with the motor speed and would just spin on the motor shaft while it was running.

Turn the power off to the machine and try turning the fan with your finger and if it is bad, you will know it.

The fans were not available as service parts per se, so you will have to get one off of another motor or swap the pump out. Not a hard job to do really!

A 40" stove might not be exactly what you want but there's a 1960 Custom Imperial advertised on Kijiji near Oshawa (a 4 hour drive from Detroit). It's a Canadian model so it doesn't have the Speed Heat burner (and it had extra fuses). The Heat Minder burner is currently not working.

The glass isn't cracked (the seller told me the blue tape is there to show which burner doesn't work). And the seller also told me that the porcelain in in very good condition. And apparently, the price is very negotiable...
