Removal of Cycle Selector Knob on LG WM2050

Does anyone have experience removing the round cycle selector knob on an LG FL washer? It seems like it should just pull off but will not. Looking at the Sears Parts Select parts lists and diagrams it appears to be a separate part from the control panel (separate P/N, shown as separate in the diagram).

I got a great deal on a very similar LG FL with an internal heater. The new one has a different finish on the selector knob and door. I'm giving the old unit to a friend but want to try and match the dryer knob and door...swapping between machines. The door comes off really easily but the knob is not as simple.

I dont know your model but I looked at 3 LG service manuals and not one of them showed how to remove the knob, just the whole control panel.

I work on Korean autos as we also have a Hyundai dealership and I can tell you their parts fit so tight that often we break something to get parts removed.

Just thinking out loud here, have you checked to make sure that altering the look of the machine will not void the warranty?

Connectors on these Korean machines do fit VERY tight. When I do choose to work on one, have to take EXTRA care to ensure that the connector does not separate from the wiring, or that you don't pull the terminals from the board. Because of this and a few other reasons, generally I don't repair Samsung or LG built machines for customers.

Knob Removal

You have to remove the control board from the back of the facia and then you can pull the knob off the board. I found this out when I tore apart a LG WM2010CW.

First wash going...LG WM2101HW

They fixed everything I disliked in my previous LG in this one...love the internal heater. You can even check the water temperature by pressing and holding the temperature selector button during the cycle.

My old one is going to a friend in need of a washer.

It looked fine in the laundry room once it was installed so I didn't end up having to do anything.
