I am trying to replace the coupling on my Osterizer Super Deluxe blender, model 452. I can't get the remains of the old coupling to unscrew from the motor shaft. I try to hold the fan still while grabbing the old coupling and turning it, but all that happens is the motor shaft and everything turn except the fan, and the fan nut and blades come loose.

Any tips on breaking the old coupling loose and unscrewing it? Is there anything else on the motor I can safely grab/hold to prevent the shaft from turning while try to unscrew the coupling?

(New coupling can be seen in the lower right of the picture. Old coupling is chewed up from where I have held onto it with pliers/vice grips.)

Maybe the threads are left-hand? Sometimes the motor shaft has a spot to use a rod or something as a hold-back while removing the coupling too, otherwise may have to take rear of motor apart to grab the rotor with a cushioned set of pliers as not to damage anything. Sometimes adding some heat to the old coupling will help if its all metal, but be careful around the bearing, and PB Blaster in large quantities helps too

What has worked for me

In the past:

Duck bill vice grip pliers (I'm sure there's a 'proper' word for them, but you know what I mean) around the shaft just under the coupling. It won't affect the bearing if you keep it high enough.

Regular vice grip pliers on the coupling. Hold tight and turn - it will unscrew. It's tightens on in the direction of the motor rotation.
