Repost: Starting the New Year off Right!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Both machines are safely inside now. As I mentioned in the original post, I spotted these two headed for scrap and couldn't stand to see that happen. And while I vowed to only drag home 806's (still need an Avocado...) the 407 and 408 were too unique to pass up. Not only that, the 408 is a Suds Saver to boot!

Clean as a pin inside the A407!

- And, with the sentiments of the original post, hopefully I'll find some time to get back into the washer hobby, or all my hobbies for that matter, once the Lodge construction comes to a close later this year. Wishing luck in the new year to all the members here at AW.org!

Gorgeous!!

I bet both will fire right up and quietly function with little to no problems at all.

Great grabs! Both machines look minty - especially the A407. Wonder if the pilot light actually has a light in it.

Looking forward to hauling more machines out of basements in the years to come.

Cory!

How nice to see you surface again!

Wow those 407's must be getting on in years, they are begining to look retro for me and as such actually desireable.
I do love the white tubs in Maytags, I am sucker for white tub top loaders!
Why didn't they make a white tub Bendix???

Keep is posted on when the lodge opens for business!

cheers

Is it me, or does the turquoise and dark blue tubs seem to hold up to much more abuse than the white ones?

~Wash cycle times have sure increased over the years. A no-nonsense 10-minutes max for these two!

IIRC the rule-of-thumb was one minute per pound of laundry.
Most machines tended to stop at 14 or 15 minutes wash time, max.

Speaking of soak cycles: Most detergents can hold soil in supsension for 30+/- minutes. A quick prewash with cool to warm water first (with a spin and drain and water-change)makes for a more effective soak, and one where the soils from the inseam and armpit areas are simply not redistributed to the rest of the garmants (because the detergent can no longer hold the dirt in suspension).

Thanks for posting these lovely machines!

Beautiful Tags. The A407 is just like one a neighbor across the street from me had when I was younger, except the knob did not have the plastic ring. I remember being confused at the cycle options, not fully realizing how they worked in conjunction with the buttons marked Regular, Permanent Press, and Gentle. Now I do and it is another reason I am glad to be a member of the club.

Have a good one,
James
