More on Bosco and Salvo

Petek, this is the version I grew up with...

I hate Bosco,
Bosco's not for me,
Mommy put it in my milk
To try and poison me--

I fixed Mommy
I put it in her tea
Now I have no Mommy
To try and poison me!

Paulg, you must be one of the few people who ever bought Salvo. Critics said Salvo "looked like a hockey puck and performed like one in the washing machine." In fact, the product had to be reformulated because some people actually thought the tablets could be used in more than one washload...but griped because their clothes weren't coming out clean!

You may also remember Lever Brothers had a version called Vim, which came out after Salvo (I think about 1962) and was withdrawn somewhere in the late '60s. Salvo came out in 1960 and withdrawn in 1978.

BTW, in late 2005, Big Lots stores in St. Louis received shipments of a Salvo dishwashing liquid that was made in Mexico. It came in a green plastic bottle that looked like the old Joy bottle and smelled something like the non-ultra Lemon Fresh Joy formula ("Salvo me Salva!" ["Salvo saves me!"]) read the label.
