Had one of those for many years, was a great machine. Had a couple of drawbacks, the main one being the need for the wash tower in the middle of the lower rack, made loading a bit more tedious.
Got about 8-10 years out of before it self destructed with little bits of black goo all over all the dishes all the time. Very annoying and disappointing.

Could that have been the door seal and/or any other seals? In certain circumstances we would see that with Miele when the lower door seal or the seals in the cover on the sump where the lower spray arm hooks in were deteriorating, usually from something caustic or otherwise harsh being used in the machine.

All we ever used was CAscade, so nothing caustic. Door seal was solid, only thing I could find that might be the cause were some of the seals in the bottom of the tub. This forum didn't exist back then otherwise I might still have it and my '73 Lady Kenmore garage door washer...
Bits Of Black Goo All Over The Dishes
This happened with several different brand DWs, the chlorine in the DW detergents at the time attacked the black rubber parts in the water system and would come loose and deposit all over the inside of the DW and get on the dishes as well.
GE was bad about this because of its large black rubber sump boot, but we also saw WP DWs doing this however they were easy to fix as you only had to change the pump sump gasket and the little rubber thing in the center of the lower wash arm. This is why GE and WP went to using light colored rubber parts for several parts of their DWs water circulation systems.
This problem was much more prevalent on DWs where soft water was present and lots of DW was used along with rinsed dishes and longer wash cycles, it also seemed to occur more often with some of the stronger detergents like Cascade.
