I've not used my 2003 Whirlpool Calypso washer for several years, as I've been renovatiog the house. It has been stored in the basement, and I'm sure has gotten lots of construction dust, including that from demo and concrete sawing and grinding, inside it.

I want to start using it again in the near future, as soon as I get provisions for the dryer connection completed, and the water heater on. What do you recommend I do before using it again? I want to remove the cabinet to vac it out, but do not know how to go about this, as I've never worked on it before. Any advice will be appreciated.

The cabinet does not come off (like a direct-drive machine).  There's a (long) screw behind the decorative medallion on front.  Remove the screw, the top pulls forward slightly then raises up.  Screws along the front edge come out to remove the front panel.  There's a service panel on back, and a panel on bottom for access to the pump and motor.
