Hey all! I just got this on ebay last Friday. You recall the untimely death of my old Radarange a few weeks ago... and I have been reheating leftovers in a vintage electric skillet until I could find another Radarange. This is a model RR-4D and it was built Feb. 1974 but not sold until Jan 1975. When you see the original cancelled check, you can understand why Radaranges did not sell very fast at first. $$$

Cleaned up very well

And looks so nice next to the vintage Kelvinator fridge.

Nice and clean inside now

I spent all afternoon cleaning it up,but it really was not that bad.
The stirer on this model is powered by an electric motor.

close up of the controls

This model has two timers, plus a defrost lever and the regular "start" "stop" "light" switches.

and LIGHTS!

And you know how we all love lights around here.....
And is glows "COOKING" in the center area of the knob when the MV is running. How 1970's high tech is that??

A better photo of the bottom timer

The top timer is for short cooking times (up to five minutes)
The bottom timer is for long cooking times (up to thirty minutes)

The bottom timer was inop when I got the MW. I found that the contacts in the timer just needed to be adjusted. A very easy (and low tech) fix.

and if you turn both on....

It lights up really KEWL! (now we're Cookin')

Original book with all the instructions and warrenty

A rare thing to have on a second hand thirty year old appliance!

BTW I really love the color on this, better than the wood-grained models. It is sort of an off white, and the cabinet, chrome, interior, and controls are mint! YAAA!!

What did they cost back then??

Well... here is the original check. Remember these are early 1974 dollars. What would that amount to today?

BTW: I paid $20.00 for the MV,and $90.00 for the shipping.

The shipping weight for this Radarange was 106 LBS. Without the browning skillet and the instructions manuals and packing the MV weighs 85 LBS. It is PAINFULLY heavy!

Hooray for vintage Radaranges. I'm tending to use my dial timer model the most now because it's so much easier to just twiddle the dial and hit the start button rather than pressing all those buttons in sequence. The other one here wanted the GE back in place above it rather than the Touchmatics so I had to give in somewhat plus the side opening door is a bit easier to access when the unit is up on the shelf. My dials don't light up, now I'm wondering if they're supposed to as well...hmmm

Defrost lever close up

When you set the timer, then press the "start" button on the Radarange, you can really hear the power surge through, until the fan starts up,and drowns it out. You know this baby is "cookin'"

It's just delightfully "Low Tech"

I LOVE it! (:

popcorn in a Radarange??

Not according the the instructions!

BTW: A member here needed a replacement glass tray, and I promised they could have mine,if I did not need it. Please email your address to me,and I will send you the tray at no charge.

Good Night from Northern Indiana!

Pretty, Pretty, Pretty!

Rick:

That's a great Radarange! Absolutely love the gorgeous lighting!

Now all you need is Barbara Hale to pose between the Amana and the Kelvinator!

Enjoy your beautiful treasure!

Venus :-D

Whew! So glad you went with a vintage RR instead of one of those tinny pieces of crap they sell nowadays! Just listen to that door thunk. No radiation would DARE try to escape!

Ah, if only Life came with a list of Things Not To Do!

Nice microwave!!

Good job with clean up! I think we all appreciate the importance of lights contol panels.

About that tray,

Rick, you have mail, and THANKS... see I did not have that list of no no's... now I know better.

I love the lighted knobs, reminds me of the one the next door neighbors had, when new, we used to make cored apples with butter and cinnamin treats, that was amazing at the time.

Good For You!

Hey Rick, this is awesome! Another RR4D saved! You will be happy with its performance. It appears that she still bears the original tray, with manual! I'm really glad you picked this one up - I remember seeing it a while back on the 'bay.

BTW - this model was the LAST residential RR to use a motor driven antenna, and not an air driven like your previous model (sigh of relief!)

BEN

There's another one sitting on the shelf in the thrift store here, I didn't have the energy to heave it around to check the model # but I believe it's a touchmatic RR9 in beautiful shape for $15. I can't drag another one home, 3's my limit unless I find a very early one.

One more with new batterys

Thank you ALL for the nice comments about Ricks Radarange! I just LOVE it! (: The other one was nice too,but I like this one "more better" LOL! The funky light up knobs, plus the fairly loud, primitive "electromagnetic" hum sounds this one make are the "real deal" for me! I am also glad that this one has a motor powered stirrer. This unit blows LOTS of air out Jason. Much more than my old one did.You can feel the draft of air from several feet away! No need to put your face up to this one.
I took one more photo with this piece of sh*& camera after installing new batterys. Photo brightness doesn't seem much better, however here it is anyway.
BTW:
Scott, I will send your Radarange tray out to you tomorrow.

Really looks great in your kitchen there. Glad you found another RR. I like those lighted timers, really makes the oven look classy. Much better built too than those little tin-foil boxes made in chinese sweat-shops too!
