I just had to replace my appliance bulb in the Philco. Imagine my surprise when I figured out it was the original appliance bulb. Who knew? I should write Philco and demand a refund. The bulb didn't make it to 60!

If it isn't the original, it was an early replacement. The size of the bulb is larger than they have made an appliance bulb in decades, the filament inside the bulb is also of older design. I have a lamp that has an original bulb too. It is interesting to see.

Will-- I had a never-used 1959 Lady Kenmore washer for awhile, and the original tub light bulb was still in it, print still completely legible. Indeed, it was also more...well, bulbous, than new appliance bulbs. I'd agree the one you changed is probably pretty old.

My grandma/grandpa's rounded-top Polar King sure had a relatively ancient-looking light bulb, and even more than their newer, but just-as-vintage Kelvinator freezer did...!

My uncle was kind enough to let me use some of his JB weld on it. It's still rusting from the inside out, but it's patched for now. I'd love to find a spare, one day.

Thanks for remembering me![this post was last edited: 1/30/2015-18:04]
