Roadside Find #2

here we go again.....I always said about this curse, once you find one, more follow!

this time, a washer....LG TROMM no less.....I think they used it for an aquarium, the gravel and sand that I found inside, swear they washed rocks, needed a major flush thru....and the pump needed a new impellor.....so far, so good, it all works!

You either got VERY good luck or very good eyesight to find those for free, Martin. There is never anything on the sides of the road around here unless its for sale at a ridiculous high price. Granted, I live on a dirt road, but I have scoffed an almost new cheapie Kenmore upright vac that works perfect and passed up old washers because I dont have the place to keep or work on them unfortunately.

Don't get me started......

on the other stuff we have found...just in the past month, my basement is loaded...vacuums up the waaaa-zoo, stereos, TVs, keurig coffeemakers, fans, speakers, bedroom sets and bunk beds, lamps, and the list goes on and on.....a great majority of it works, it just needs cleaned up......

we had two yard sales so far this month, for one day only....and cleared over 650.00 each time from this stuff.....

better profit than scrapping and recycling alone.....there has to be an end to this eventually....

keep looking in your areas, you never know.....

..you definitely are aligned with the planets and appliances! You didn't just find a rust-bucket, parts missing, was-sitting-under-our-car-port-for-the-past-ten-years washer... AND it's ANOTHER LG Tromm?

People probably eagerly ask, "you havin' a garage sale again, soon?".

No roadside finds around here at present-years ago-while going to one of the transmitter sites-found alarge console TV by the road-had a tiny IZUZU car and could not haul it.also found two Hi-Fi consoles by the road in my neighborhood in front of a house with "free" signs on them.By the time I rounded up a neighbor with a pickup-they were gone.One was a Zenith-the other a Magnavox.Then there was the trashed plastic GE,and some other washer.The GE washer suffered a horrible end-it was vandalized and smashed-then the Alamo roadside mower chopped up the remains-like turned them into plastic schrapnel.Finally someone hauled the carcuss away.But no new LG washers and dryers by our road.Would be a nice find.That is sort of a mystery-why would someone dump them-they weren't damaged or anything.

actually this machine does have a tilt to it, more noticable when the top is off....

runs really well.....the temps are dubbed down.....HOT gives you a real warm wash, WARM is cool....and COLD, forget it!....rinses only...

very quiet, but the pump does roar, you know its on......

the spin out is super nice, very fast, and leaves the clothes slighty damp....fast drying...

and the water level pressure switch is adjustable......I raised it to just below the door seal.....seems better that way....

so not a bad find....some clean out and wipe down....a new impellor in the pump.....and I got a cool machine......ashame it doesn't match the dryer I found....but what are you gonna do....

Why don't manufacturer's provide adequate rustproofing around detergent drawers and bleach dispensers?  They know that those chemicals are caustic and/or hygroscopic (attracts/holds moisture), and will collect in the nooks and crannies of the cabinet nearest the dispensers? Seems foolish to expect customers to pay upwards of 1K for a washer, then to have it rust away.

Nice find - glad it works but for a little pump roaring, garage sale buyers won't be deterred by that though.  I didn't see an adjustable water level on the LG I have, am waiting for parts to replace the control board now but will have to play with the water level when I get them.  

The machine I have has a sanitary (heated) wash cycle so the dumbed down temps aren't as big of an issue.  I normally always use hot water for most washes in any of the front loaders unless it's a "delicate flower" of a garment but we have very few of those!  By the time the water gets into the machine, warms the tub & machine parts and the load itself, hot water is cooled down to warm anyway.

 

This looks like a fairly bare-bones but very adequately featured washer, do you like the washing ability?

Actualy not a bad machine.....not fully featured as for options/cycles, but enough for the basics, and although we like TOL, this has enough to handle most everything.....it washed nicely at its factory set water level, with a little more added it seems to clean the inside and boot better....

the first two loads of whites with hot water and bleach didn't touch the grime/slime/mold inside, even looking thru the rear hole you could see black along the outter drum......after the increased water level, one hot bleached load later, all gone!....so I am pretty much set at this level for best cleaning of clothes and machine...

I have been running almost every load thru it since I got it......it does a nice job on everything.....and only using the Normal cycle, hot/cold temps, and high spin speed, SearsUP detergent.......and really spins them out well...

there are sensors for oversudsing and too much water added manually....which DOES work....

Your experiments prove what I've been saying:

On water usage I think the whole Energy Star business is damn stupid all around! Efficiency based on water usage is stupid period! Efficiency based on water used/per pound of clothing washed and rinsed clean is smart.

Some bureaucrat has got WAYYY too much time on their hands.

Water level adjustment:
One point to remember, at least with this model of LG.....the first WASH is NOT metered.....when adjusting the pressure switch, only the rinses were affected....the WASH is somewhat designed to concentrate the detergent and water, and then thorough rinsing gets rid of it all....

I learned this by constantly turning the screw, and nothing would change....and then it went to fill for the rinses, and filled over half way up the window, WAY too much.....turned it back and started over, and then fine tuned it to just touching the bottom of the window

something to keep in mind and watch out for.....

After all you already have the best washers money can buy..a Maytag! Anything else is settling for second best! (wink)

Fun machines....YES......

and a set I wouldn't mind keeping except for a few things, not matching, prefer them in bright red, and wishing the dryer to be gas, that electric meter is about flying off the house.....but no matter what, I will always stick with the Neppies, I need to find another set, I want six lined up in the country house....

and actually they are sold already, to someone who could use them, another foster family with 6 kids, this will be in addition to the 2 sets of TLers they already have....capacity is key with these LG, they are huge....

Alex.....you have no idea how much stuff is being found in the scavenge hunt.......gonna be time for another yard sale soon....the basement is getting packed.....I must have 30 vacuums, stoves/microhoods, a few more washers, mixers, bunkbeds, stereos speakers...the list goes on and on....may not last long, just gonna ride with it as long as we can.....most of it just needs cleaned up....what does not work gets seperated and off to the recyclers.....copper, plastics, and aluminum pay a nice dividend...

sure you don't want to move to Jersey?
