Just some info I learned today for the 6's... They're programmable!

Go ahead, say you want to defrost some meat then all out cook, enter your defrost time, hit defrost...the display goes blank...enter your cook time then hit start. You can substitute Slo-Cook for Cook also.

The machine will defrost for the time entered, hold for an equal amount of time, then cook for the second entered amount.

If I recall, defrost cooks on full power for every 20 out of 60 seconds entered. Slo-cook runs on full power for 20 out of every 40 seconds.

Defrost power level

Knowing nothing about RRs, here goes-
sounds about right-- 20/60 is a third (33%)
Today's nukers defrost at the 30% power level.

Try this for fun-
Enter a cooking time of 2 minutes and 80 seconds. (which is three minutes and twenty seconds!)

Any waver I have tried handles it beautifully and then reverts to 60 seconds in a mminute.

One of the nice things I like about the RR lower power settings is that the power cycling is MUCH faster on these microwaves than in the new ones. We've got a new Panasonic microwave at work, and on 50% power it runs almost 30 seconds on to 30 seconds off. It doesn't really cook slow, it just cooks fast, then stops then starts cooking fast again, scorching your food no matter how low you set it. My RR9 cycles on for 1 second and off or 1 second, gently cooking the food slowly. You also can't beat a Radarrange for the even distribution of radiation!!!

Why did microwave manufacturers stop using stirrers anyways???

Government requires safety interlocks

Any of you all remember the early Tappan microwave ovens? One of the curious things about them is that the exhaust fan would continue running if the door was opened. The Magnetron would shut off, but the sound of the fan running was a little disconcerning. We had one like this in a vacation home we rented one time, and I immeditely closed the door when I noticed the fan kept running. After a little while, I realized that the when the door was opened the light on the countertop got brighter, indicating the microwave was pulling less juice (thus the magnetron was shut off). I also didn't feel any heat come over my hand when I stuck it in there to stir the food LOL! I wonder how many calls the owners of the house got about the microwave that would shut off when the door was opened!!!

Too Much On Time

That's one of my big dissatisfactions with microwaves nowadays. The lower power levels are on too long of a cycle.

My older GE tol model has been an excellent oven and I'm hesitating to dispatch it to the store room and put a 2nd RR in its place. Decisions decisions. The RR's look so much better but the drop down door may be a hassle up on the mw shelf,arrggghh
