"Rude" Wal Mart Employees

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

My own experience with rude Walmart employees happened when I went in to return a $20 toaster that I bought my mom. It was DOA. I went to the customer service department stood in one of two lines and was immediately screeched at by the dept. manager in front of about 12 people. Apparently, I was in the wrong line (there were no signs) as this neo-facist so profoundly pointed out. I was not in the return line, but the line for other customer services. Then she proceeded to chew me out for trying to get waited on before the others, loud enough for everyone to hear. It didn't matter, they were shocked at her rudeness as well. I left the toaster on the floor and walked out and have never set foot in that store again.

Walmart's Dirty Little Secret

"Low Prices, Always" is the Walmart motto.

The problem is, it doesn't say how low.

The reality is that at the ends of aisles and on special displays, Walmart will have put the thumbscrews to its suppliers to provide the cheapest possible example of XYZ product. It probably will be the lowest price in town on that item. But venture into the aisle where you might want something bigger or better, and quite probably you are going to pay significantly more for the upgraded version than you would if you had shopped around in advance.

It's very close to bait-and-switch, but all legal, of course.

And then there is Walmart's return policy - basically if the piece of junk breaks the moment you plug it in at home, your SOL. Send it back to the mfg, I gather. Target has the same policy. One reason why I got my slow cooker at Kohl's - they will refund money on defective merchandise.

well Ill prolly get shot admitting this but I am a walmart employee.

I have my own problems there within and no I dont really like my job but thats because I am a non conformist and really have no right being there. lol

I do feel on some level that you guys are being very unfair to wally world as a whole. In my store we have over 460 employees, with a number like that theres no way they are all going to be friendly perfect carbon copy Mrs bradys handling your affairs.I dont see how you expect everyone of them to react the same way and be the same way each and everytiime you go in there..that is really asking a lot.

I do agree I hate bad s ervice and I pride myself on doing the best I can with what they give me to work with. Most of the time I can win most people over.

However, there are some of the public, you CANT win over.Believe it or not there are a lot of rude costmers.
MANy more than nice ones. Most consumers are too willing to let you know how F**cked up thier day was and now they have to deal with you and your store coz they forgot milk....as the teens say now days WHATEV!!!!

In our area jobs are scarce and there are a lot of people working those counters that just cant be elsewhere.Think of 460 employees, do you think all of them said when I grow up Im gonna work at Walmart, its so respectful, so well paying, so gratfying. Cmon you guys, theres two sides to every story,
were all in the same boat..try a lil patience here and there.

someone here a couple on New Years ago said it best when they said this year Im going to go forth and try to not jump to conclusions so much. Im going to try and at least realize that I dont know what everyone elses journey is about and thusly will try to at least to be more understanding on my side..........its good advice for both sides of the counter.

ok my piece said...........rant on everyone

Watch the Frontline Program....

A suggestion for everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) who has responded to this thread is to watch the PBS Frontline program about Wal-Mart and how it stiff-arms manufacturers to succumb to its cutthroat business practices. Wow, what an eye-opener! "Save money. Live better." Yeah, right! Tell that to the thosands of people in the state of Ohio alone who lost their jobs at companies such as Rubbermaid and Thomson Consumer Electronics! And it was all because Wal-Mart could not accept the fact that prices for raw materials had increased, thereby increasing what it would have to pay for finished goods shipped to its warehouses. I'll never view Wal-Mart in a positive light ever again. I would go so far as to say the company is a primary contributor, along with the big banks, to this economic fiasco we're in.

Exactly what I said earlier. I really don't care about the employees customer service skills since I won't shop there. I actually get angry at my relatives who continue to shop there. It's just laziness, we have several different retailers in the area with prices as good as or better than that crap place, but it's easier to stop on the way home instead of driving an extra 1/4 mile.

What Walmart has done to this country is a disgrace, and I hope there is a special place in retail hell for them and their ilk. Wolco, Arlen's and Kmart's fate is too good for them.

Our forum is not "big fish" in the overall picture. However the percent that has been displeased by an experience at a supposedly number one retailer is indicative of the real picture. I am sure everyone here values their hard earned $.
We feel alot better with the dollar store chains for cleaning supplies. You cannot beat online shopping for convenience.

Contact Management

Wal-Mart is a HUGE issue in our household, and amongst friends. Often we debate on such issues as cheap labour, environmental effects, the 100 mile diet etc. Long story short, we can manage to shave about $40-$50 off the weekly grocery tab.

Complaints mostly go un-noticed by the locals. I find it best to send complaints to head office, where they may or may not care, but it's better than attempting to make comments in store.

The link below is where you can send comments/concerns.

Cheers!

I like in a town of 56,000 people with an SMSA size of about 250,000. The impact ya'll discusss above is a fact of life here, but it's not simply walmart. It's also Circuit City, BestBuy, and Sam's Club. 24 years ago we had appliances sold through Good Year stores, Monkey Wards and one or two other small shops. Same with electrnoics. But all those shut down after Big Box stores arrived Lowes the Walmart was moved to a super center site next door to Sam's Club. Alkl this happened after I bought my 1987 GE GSD1200. I ended up going to a larger city 30 miles north of me because I got a better deal than anywhere here in town. I have to watch my money. Except for the 1994 Dependable Care Dryer, all my appliances have been purchased via Sears. Another impact of the Super Center, Albertson's closed down and all but one local hardware store has closed pretty much. We now have a small-scale Target that's been here for 2 years. But I shope theree maybe 3 times since it opened. their prices are just too high for me. I don't grocery shop often at WalMart, prefer the only single Texas Chain that's here because Wmt's dairy products just taste funny to me. I'll shop at Wmt for groceries occassionally when I know they have something I can't get elsewhere. But it's just a fact of life and dealing with watching $$$.

My brother used to be a Wal-Mart Manager

and My Sis-In-Law still is.
I know for a fact that they do not tollerate rudeness. They have a no tollerance/no complaint policy. The employee is always wrong.

If you have been treated badly by a Wal-Mart employee, ask to speak to the manager. If he/she is not help dial 1-800-Walmart. thats 1-800-925-6212.

I had an incident at the pharmacy one time. I called 1-800-walmart, and within five minutes of hanging up with Bentonville, the store manager was on the line wanting to know how they could fix this problem.

For the most part, we haven't really had that many incidents with the employees of WalMart. Most seem to vary from friendly to simply aloof and points in between.

As for WalMart prices, I have seen that too. Some of the items are low priced, but then other things are very high. When you go shopping you have to know your prices on things you regularly buy.

We have two WalMarts near us. One to the east about 6 miles and one to the west about 6 miles. The one to the east used to be nice, but now it is filthy. Over the past 4 years that part of town has taken a nose dive in reputation. The parking lot is filled with trash, you can find empty boxes from television sets, strollers, tons of cellophane bags from chips, snacks, etc blowing around the parking lot. In the store there is merchandise laying on the floor in the aisles and the store is definitely understaffed. Personally, I think it's the people who shop there now who are the problem. The staff is simply overwhelmed.
The WalMart to the west of us is still nice, but you can see it's heading downwards. There is crime in the parking lot at night even though they have security out there. A woman got beat up and her purse stolen at 9pm a few months ago. And not to be racist, the perps where white college kids from the local community college. They did get caught.
So we drive up to The Woodlands (about a 15 minute drive) to that WalMart. It's still clean and nice. I think this one will stay that way as it is in a rather upscale neighborhood.

So in essence, I think part of the problem is not just the WalMart employees, but the location of the store and the kind of people who shop there that matters.

The Walmrt issue is endemic to the country as a whole. I don't know if it is a symptom or a result. Has the populis been driven to scramble to find the lowest prices because their income has been stagnant for a decade or more? Is their income stagnant because employers like Walmart cut wages to the minimum?

I have no idea how this will all end, perhaps back to the days where the super rich control everything and 98% of the population is scraping to get by.

ALL the Wal Mart in this area

Have the rude thing down to a T every one from the front to the back treats you like sh@@ And if you ask to speak to a manager your told he is out of the building and will be back in about 2 hours.. If you ask again in 2 hours your are told the Exact same thing. If you tell them that is what I was told 2 hours ago they just walk off. If you find a checker that is nice that means he / she just started or wont be there when you go back.. They just dont tolarate employees that are nice. that a no no..

Sudsman

I would dial 1-800-Walmart while standing at the front desk.
This number rings directly to Bentonville, AR and the operator who takes your call esculates your complaint immediately.

Not only is the store manager contacted, but so is the District and Area manager. A complaint on the 800# is not a complaint they take lightly.

So you next conversation should go. "Can I speak to a manager?"
"He's out of the building"
"So is it 1800walmart that I should dial?"
I will promise you they will find someone to solve your problem.

Re Incarnation

Coming out of a life in customer service I say, "If there's reincarnation, I'm coming back as the public!" There's no excuse for being untoward as a customer or a customer representative. I seldom make it to a Wal-Mart because there aren't any close here. I was in Kansas and had a ball playing with the produce attendanty who was in the middle of getting ripped by an angry customer. At check out, the checker had her head down and when I spoke to her she looked up and asked me what I said. I repeated it and her reply was, "No one ever speaks to me. I'm sorry I didn;t hear you." She looked like a whipped puppy. There are always two sides of the story. Trust me, my experience demonstrate more out of line customers than checkers. Sears has a policy, "The customer is not always right but it
s your job to let them think they are." Just imagine the joy of working minimum wage with little and no benefits and then expected to give quality service.

Meijer's Rules! Have to agree with Jamie!

Much better than Walmart, and better prices with more products that we use on sale. Ours is right across the street from Walmart and the service there is much better and employees are more friendly (or so it seems). My partner worked at Sam's Club and quit when Meijer's opened and got a job there in the photo dept. because Meijer's has much better benefits for their employees. He gets a 10% discount on non-food items (even if they are on sale). Since he's on dialysis, he's got the full Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance, and it pays a majority of the dialysis treatments. He's also on medicare, and he's retired from the old Eagle's supermarkets. He collects a pension from them, and he's also collecting social security, but at least he has some halfway decent coverage. Back to groceryland, Meijer's has a better selection. Their international aisle is the bomb? We can't get enough of those Napolitanke chocolate creme and hazlenut wafers! Can't keep 'em in the cupboard for long as we just love 'em! Mike L.

Just like someone mentioned about the credit cards, don't use em'. I know it will never happen but a 2 week boycott, would straighten their butts up.

Yup, love Meijer's. Do 98% of my grocery shopping there. People are great, get paid a decent wage, the prices are excellent, and the company manages to make money in direct competition to WM.

Same with Costco, their people get good benefits, and they make money too. Meijer's and Costco, the flip side of WM. What a concept, pay your people a decent wage and bennies and still make money, who'd of thought?
