Poitng here bacuse I can't post in Vacuumland at the moment!

~Speaking of vacs, remember my sister... Well when she bought a Rumba she gave away her Kirby G4. She said the Rumba would do a good job on all the floors and it's soooo much easier to use! It's been two years now since she made that decision. With 5 cats (she's a cat person too) I wonder how odor free the Rumba has made her house?

Uhm isn't the Rumba basically nothing more than a fancy carpet sweepter?

I thought the Roomba had some sort of a vacuum action, in addition to the sweeper brushes. But I might be wrong there.

Some people apparently love their Roombas. I've never met any. I couldn't use one because it would mean de-cluttering every room and that ain't gonna happen any time soon :0. Plus it really does take a long wand with strong suction and a good brush to get cat hair/dust bunnies out of nooks and crannies.

The Roomba might have some transient entertainment value around cats, though.

Which reminds me... SNL did a great send-up of the Roomba... called the Woomba. For, guess what, feminine hygeine purposes. Really a hoot, lol!

The Roomba does indeed have suction. It works well for me on my hard floors. I don't use it on carpet since I only have carpet in the 2 upstairs spare bedrooms & the Roomba lives downstairs. It's pretty noisy, but you can set it to do its thing when you're not there & it will even park itself on it's charging base (most of the time!).

Depends on how picky one is about dust and such, someone who doesn't really care would say it's a replacement vacuum. Mom has one and loves it, she uses all over the house, but she still uses her Kirgy Ultimate G once a month because the Roomba doesn't do too well at picking up dust on carpeting and beating life back into it either!

Two years ago my sister gave us a Roomba for Christmas. We used it for awhile as a supplement to our Miele vac. It's great on the kitchen floors, it picks up the dog hair even out of corners there. And if you have lint on top of your carpet, it'll get that too. But after 6 months, we put it back in the box. It was more hassle to use than not. You also have to clean all the hair off of the brush roll, which was tedious in itself.
But as far as deep cleaning goes....pfft! Don't count on it. The only carpet I would think it would do an adequate job of cleaning was the old 70's style indoor/outdoor type.
I imagine if we took our Miele up to her house, we'd fill a bag in just two or three motions of the motorized brush roll.
