S.O.S Dishwasher Detergent?

I remember SOS dishwasher detergent.  All was another brand at the time which also went off the market.

Finish disappeared for a while, but was brought back to life. Is Electrasol still available? I do remember an ad for SOS Dishwasher detergent, but never saw the product. Calgonite is such an old product name that vacuum coffee maker manufacturers in the 30s and 40s recommended boiling the filter cloths in it.

Palmolive

I used to love Palmolive in the green box. I used it all the time and could not believe that it worked better than Cascase at the time. Then eventually like everything else I like, it disappeared. :-( Anyone remember Dial Dishwasher Detergent? I remember it being available for a very short time in the mid 90's and used it once but it didn't seem to do as well as the Palmolive or Cascade.

I remember Palmolive and Calgonite too, but not Dial.  Electrasol ended or became Finish when Ecolab sold off that part of the business I think.  It's a shame because Electrasol worked better than anything else at the time or ever since.

The evil spot maker

Oh my!  I had forgotten all about the evil spot maker.  Thanks, guys!  I never heard of SOS dishwasher detergent.  Must not have been available around here.  I do remember Finish and All dishwasher detergents.      Do any of you remember when Sears also carried a dishwasher detergent?  We would use it from time to time.  In fact, Sears in Greenville also carried a non-chlorine powdered bleach and a concentrated liquid fabric softener.  This was around 1970 when Clorox 2 came out.   Haven't seen any of these in years now.

Dishwasher detergent!

As far as SOS I never heard of it. I do remember Calgonite and used it often. I thought it was a great detergent and sorry they removed it from the market!

Electrosol was one of the originals.

Back in 1961 when my parents got their first dishwasher, a GE Mobilemaid the store carried Calgonite, Finish and Electrosol. I remember the different smells you would get in the machine when the load was done. I think we ended up using Electrosol most often even though they tried them all. Anyway, I was always shooed away from the Mobilemaid when it was running. My father said it could shoot out hot steam at any moment and give me a nasty burn. Hmmm.

I have never heard of SOS DW detergent before either. I suspect as someone said earlier that it may have been advertised in a test market and the company may have decided not to go with it nationwide.

Mom tried Calgonite, Palmolive, Cascade and Electrasol when we (she) got the our first dishwasher.  Though I loved the smell of Cascade she used Electrasol more often because it worked better in our water.  When we moved out to the farm we had well water and Cascade seemed to do better. Palmolive and Calgonite didn't seem to do but so-so hence wasn't purchased again.

I think Armour/Dial makes a lot of off brand name products like the newly introduced Final Touch fabric softener, Trend, Purex, S.O.S., and Life Boy.Some of which they acquired from Lever Brothers.I've seen Final Touch at Wally World recently.

Dishwasher detergent!

My mom always perfered All - I thought it was just ok. My favorate was calgonite and cascade, and at times I would use Finish. I never liked Electrosol my aunt had tried it in her Frigidaire DW and the dishes tasted like soap after the fact. She than switched to Finish.

When we got our first dishwasher from the GE repairman that my father worked with he told us to either use Cascade or Electrasol what ever was less but I hated Electrasol because it left spots and smelled like rotten eggs so we used Cascade and I still use it today. But I have never seen SOS DW detergent. But I have seen and tried the others. But always back to Cascade.

We alternated between Cascade & Electrasol, whatever happened to be on sale, or what we had coupons for when doing the grocery shopping.  I always liked the chlorine smell when Electrasol was the detergent du jour.

Our first dw was a single arm KA Regency(?) portable.

I vaguely remember us using Calgonite, but mostly Electrasol & Finish. We may have used Dishwasher All some, I know the lady next door used it in her 1961 SpinTube as she also used the All brand laundry detergent in her LK Combo. I don't remember us using Cscade when I was younger because I remember how captivated I was by the smell when it was used in the Hotpoint impeller our friends in Dallas had as the wonderful smell wafted out of the vents at the top of the door on the Hotpoint. I think in later years after the budget was eased a bit, my mom purchased Cascade. I've pretty much been a Cascade guy as long as I"ve been providing products for my o wn life.
