Hey folks. I've tried to search the Archives. I've put in SA8 and Quixtar and both returned nothing. I recall not long ago there was a big thread on SA8.

I am about to run out of Persil and thought I would try the SA8. I have a couple of questions.

1. I have looked on the website and they don't specifically mention how to use their detergent in a front loading machine. At least not that I can find. So for those of you who use it, do you just use less? If so, how does it work? As I recall those who were using it really liked it.
2. I only saw one formula. I didn't see one for colors and one for other laundry. Have any of you noticed any fading of your colors using SA8? When I first started using Persil I didn't realize there were two formulas so I only used the one and noticed all my colors fading.
3. Have any of you used SA8 with Oxiclean? I use Oxiclean quite a bit especially my whites. Is Trizyme a replacement for Oxiclean? Is it better/not as good?

Sorry to go over this again but I really did try to find the old thread and don't know what I was doing wrong to get no results to my search.

I use 1 scoop (1/8 cup) per load in my Duet (or other) front-loader and everything works beautifully. I have only used the SA8 Bioquest, an enzyme-based detergent lately, they discontinued the SA8 Plus detergent. The Bioquest works fantastic without the use of oxy-bleaches, etc. Amway does have an all-fabric bleach (oxygen based) and a powdered chlorine-based bleach product on the website. I like the Tri-Zyme product as well, but haven't needed it since trying the Bioquest detergent.

Unless you wash a huge load of very greasy fabrics in a front loader, you have to use less. A load of four bath sheets in a front loader whether the Duet, the Mieles or the Creda, WITH STPP ADDED, only requires 5 ml of it. A large load might require up to 15, again with STPP. It's probably because of the STPP, but a little too much will make a good amount of suds, which is not a problem I have with Tide HE powder, but others might have different results. I have not tried it with a high temperature wash (180F or above) so I do not know about its propensity to generate more suds at those temperatures. The Tide does fine. I have only used a full measure of SA8 when using a top loader and, again, with STPP.

SA8 detergent coupled with the TriZyme and their all fabric bleach is unbeatable. In fact the All fabric bleach is more powerful than the OxyClean stuff. You dont need much in a front loader...just a Tablespoon and thats it. In a top loader its about an 1/8 of a cup. On the Box of the detergent it will tell you how muc to use and the scoop is very small ...but that scoop cleans like you wouldnt believe. So when I do a load..I add one scoop of SA8 detergent...one scoop of trizyme and one half scoop of the all fabric bleach. I also use their fabric softner...the original scent. It leaves the clothes with a slight scent but its a very clean scent at that.
I did try something yesterday by adding a little Persil MegaPearls to the SA8 recipe and I have to say WOW!!
Everything was nice and white in my white load and very bright.

Thank you!

Thanks for the information. I'm going to give it a try. I generally wash my whites in my 161 degree wash but everything else is in Warm or Hot water. I think the Hot water setting on my machine is 140 and the Warm is something like 120. Not sure I'd have to look at the book.

I love the Persil but the SA8 is so much cheaper I thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks again!

Sorry I'm late to this thread; I've tried a number of Quixtar products and have nothing but good things to say about them. TriZyme is, indeed an Oxi-Clean-like detergent booster.

I don't use SA8 on my black/dark color loads, so I don't know if it causes those to look faded/dusty----which I'm told is caused by optical brighteners in detergents. I use Woolite For Dark Colors or Cheer For Dark Colors for my black loads, neither of which have optical brighteners. Haven't noticed any fading issues with lighter colors.

Their website is quixtar.com

These are the products I use:

SA8- the best detergent you'll use.

TriZyme-- better than Oxi-Clean

All-Fabric Bleach-- also recommended, but I tend to use TriZyme more often. Stronger than supermarket all-fabric bleaches.

Stain Treat (aerosol)--formulated for greasy/oily stains. Much better than Shout.

Stain Treat (liquid)--formulated for non-greasy food and protein stains. I like to keep both in the house, but if I had to choose one, it would be the aerosol version, as I find greasy stains (BBQ sauce, pasta sauce, etc) the most difficult to remove.

SA8 Fabric Softener (Regular scent and Signature scent)--doesn't leave a greasy build-up on fabrics. Bath towels retain more of their absorbency than when using supermarket brands. Again, expensive, but it's ultra-concentrated. You use only 20 ml per load.

Dish Drops Automatic Dishwasher Detergent-- The best I've used, but ridiculously expensive. I now use it only on my grungiest pots/pans loads. Otherwise, I use Cascade Gel Pacs With Dawn, which does almost as good a job at a fraction of the price.

"....Amway SA8 still had phosphates in it"

Amway like many other products has bowed to the tree huggers and removed STPP from their laundry products, including their famous laundry booster, "Smashing White".

Too many states are now restricting phosphates not only for domestic laundry use, but commercial as well (New York State for one now bans phosphates in both products, though commercial laundry products were previously exempt). Indeed if one goes to Amway's website, and looks at any product that contained STPP,there was quite a long list of states where said products could not be sold, or shipped.

That being said, there probably is still much STPP laden stock out there in Amway dealer's basements, garages and the like. Nabbed two huge boxes of Amway's laundry booster (before it was renamed "Smashing White", and it works a treat.

Regarding Amway's Oxygen Bleach

Amway's oxygen bleach contains sodium perborate (or maybe it's percarbonate), with a highly alkaline substance, but not the normal washing soda found other "oxy" products. All oxygen bleaches work best if not better in alkaline conditions. Do think that Amway's product contains more oxygen bleach than many supermarket oxy-bleaches. Oxy-Clean for example is something like 50% washing soda and 20% oxygen bleach.

Neither sodium perborate or percarbonate are that dense. If one picks up a package of oxy-bleach a it is very heavy, more likely than not, the product contains lots of washing soda, which is very dense.

SA8-Bioquest

is simply the best laundry detergent I have ever used. I wish it were made by someone like Method, because I find Amaway/Quixtar's corporate culture to be reprehensible, but.....

I have noticed no fading/colour change on my dark cottons.

SA8- Bioquest~

I wish I could bring myself to try this product, but due to the anti-gay agenda of Amway/Quixtar, I just wouldn't feel right about it..

sudsshane, I agree with you totally. I bought a box to try. I know I should not do it, but I was helping a very nice, kind colleague who sells it. I stretch it because I add STPP and maybe I won't need to buy it again UNLESS P&G does something stupid like discontinue the powder Tide HE, which I believe to be a very good detergent.

It is a very good product. I use it a lot. Buy the powedered version though, not the liquid (which has a very petroleum-based odor to it, as well as the softeners).
