Hi Guys,
I'm just letting you guys know my 18 month old bulldog Jock died last night. I had gone to work and my family had gone to see the Australia Day fireworks. Billy my golden retriever comes with me to work and hangs out in the back with the owners dog. Jock however stays home because he doesn't like the other dog and prefers it at home. It was a scorching day and was about 105*F and Jock was outside, which was wrong to start with, he usually finds some shade to lie in but i think it was too hot for even that. I was not home when my family left otherwise i would have made him come inside. When i returned home from work i went out back to find him and found him lying in the garden, dead. We think it must have been the heat and he could have had a heart attack or sumthin, we just don't know. I made a little tribute to him and put it on You Tube, the link is at the bottom.
I needed to tell people and AW.org is quite a safe and supportive to be.
Thanks guys, its a tough time but life goes on.
Matt

I am SO

sorry, Matt.

I have part of an idea how you might be feeling, having lost my dear LJ kitty to cancer last year.

Jock was a handsome guy.

Know that we are all thinking of you Matt, I am sure this has been very difficult for you.

Wow.. I am so sorry to hear of you're loss. I had to put my lab "Lady" down in August and grams and gramps had to put there Shitzu down about a month later... Ughhh... Lady had cancer as well.. Poor thing.. Loosing a pet is like loosing a family member..

thanks guys
It is hard yes, its getting harder as the day goes on, walking around the house you see everything of his. You can see his bowl with remnants of food in it, the marks on the couch where he used to lie against when we were watching tv. My mum swept the hall and there are little piles of his fur everywhere. The thing what most upsets me is his 'tigger', thats his little toy, its the only thing he would ever play with, we used to throw it around and he used to catch it and play with it, he used to take it to bed every night. Its sad that tigger wasn't with him in his final moments and that he was essentially alone. I'm trying to stop myself from blaming myself for going to work and leaving him, or not making sure he was in a cool place, he would be sat right next to me now if he had just stayed cool.
Oh well, its done now, hes safe and at peace, sleep well little guy.

Re: My Condolences Matt:

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss Matt. I've got my 11-1/2 year old Calico Cat, Speedee doing well but for about 8-months, she has been hiding once in a while and I get uptight, thinking that I'm going to find her someplace not with me any more.

They certainly are a huge part of our Family, no matter what others might tell us. Some people never had any Children, until they got their Pet's and then have them Pass-Away, it is certainly like loosing a Child.

Peace, Blessings, Luv, Hugs and Prayers for Jock's Resting in Peace now, Steve

My Condolences to you also Matt.

A number of year ago I had a dog I brought home on valentines day when she was 6 weeks old and named her Valentine (of course). I grew up along with her and she WAS a part of the family. 16 years later, she was getting older and started having health problems, my mom said we should have her put down rather then let her suffer. I did NOT want to hear it... but eventually was talked into it. That was the MOST DIFFICULT thing I have ever had to do... I was crying so hard I could not see.

But yes... life must go on, as difficult as it is initially.

Matt.... HUGS to you!!!

Hi Matty

I doubt if that temp would have killed such a young dog. I reckon snake bite is more likely. There have been radio and newspaper items here in Vic recently about how now is the "angry season" for snakes. Warmer weather makes them more active, breeding time is Feb and March when they become more territorial and aggressive. The next eight weeks are the worst time of year for snake attack in Aus. Two days ago a man in Dandenong, in suburban Melbourne, was bitten by a Brown snake. (nasty).
My Millie cat was bitten by a snake a couple of years ago, she was dangerously ill, paralysed for three weeks from it but she pulled through with no obvious permanent ill effects, but the vet said at the time that dogs are more susceptible to snake bite and even a big dog like a rottweiler would have been dead in an hour.

Best wishes Matty.

Loss of a pet

So sorry to hear of your loss. Pets are like family and we all will be supporting you in spirit.

I am very upset for you Matt. I know myself, losing one of my cats at just 4 from a kidney infection was horrible. I also blamed myself for not getting him to the vet sooner.

Take care

Rob

Matt:

I'm so sorry about the loss of Jock. I know exactly how you feel. When we lost our beloved Sheltie, Katie a number of years ago, I could not even go outside into the backyard. There were too many memories and it was much too painful.

Although there have been many pets in our lives since Katie, there will always be a special place in my heart for her. I hope that the years soften your loss, and that the happy memories of Jock will bring you a smile.

Matty

Sorry for your loss. I have about 20 bulldogs as clients in my veterinary practice and they are wonderful, loving dogs.

"I doubt if that temp would have killed such a young dog."

Gizmo: As a veterinarian in Texas, I deal with snakebites and heatstroke quite often. Our snakes aren't nearly as poisonous as some of the ones in Australia. I rarely have a patient die of bites from the four species of venomous snakes found here: rattlesnakes, copperheads, cotton mouths (also called water moccasins), and coral snakes (venom is like a cobras but bites are rare). My own dog was bitten on the lip and tongue by a cotton mouth and she pulled through just fine.

However, heatstroke is a big killer here, and my part of Texas rarely gets over 100 degrees. Young dogs are often the ones who are affected because they tend to chase things and run the fence line when they see a cat or strange person. Even if they have proper shade and plenty of water they still over exert themselves. Older dogs tend to lay up in the shade.

Matt

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss as stated before our pets are our family members and definately my prayers are with You

My condolences!

I hope that you can take comfort in knowing that so many of us, here on this site, have been where you are, felt as you do and understand your sorrow.

sorry to hear it

Hi Matty,
I am very saddened to read about poor Jock passing away,it is very heaertbreaking when our beloved pets pass on, because as others have already posted, they really are a part of the family.
When my little mini-fox terrier Max died about a year ago, I cried for about 3 days afterwards so don't feel bad about crying over him it is perfectly natural.
Although Jocik's life was far too short, at least it was a very happy life filled with fun and love.
Best wishes.
Steve.
