Did anyone on here used to use this?
I remeber when I was younger my mother and many other people I knew used to use it. It seemed pretty popular.
When did they stop making it?
I havnt seen it around for quite a while now.
I have fond memories of my mothers Indesit filling quarter of the way up the door and washing away with Novon.
Those were the days...

They didn't stop making it - it just lost the Novon name, in favour of the Sainsbury's name.

Most supermarkets used to make up a brand name for own label detergents, Safeway had Cyclon, Asda had Logic and Tesco had... one I forget the name of. No doubt they were all made by the same company as they still are now - McBride.

I think people remember Novon because it was back in the days when Sainsbury's was by far the biggest supermarket and was probably the biggest selling own label detergent as a result.

In the 90's here in the Colonies Shaws Supermarkets were owned by J. Sainsburys and they rolled out the Novon detergents in Liquid and Powder and also Novon softener. It didnt catch on at all here and they discontinued it. It was a decent detergent.

I remember reading a review of tests carried out in the mid 1990's in the London Srandard that claimed Novon Colour was better at stain removal than Ariel Bio (Alpine or whatever incarnation it was then). My Mum used it for years as it came in squat boxed concerntrated variants with a little scoop and was not only excellent at stain removal but very economical. Shame they dropped it in that format really.
