Samsung Flex Wash & Flex Dry at CES 2017

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

More and more choices?

Just have to ask this one... Will they allow the user to decide which washer gets to self destruct? They should stop with all the gimmicks and concentrate on making products that perform normally and for a reasonable amount of time.

Having bought one of their French door refrigerators which has not been a stellar performer and their blatant denial of the problems they all have, I can assure you that there will never be another Samsung product in our home.
End of Rant!

Fascinating! It is nice to see the innovation that has resulted from higher efficiency requirements and new technology. When I was younger, the outsides would get refreshed, but the insides of machines stayed nearly the same for years.

That is pretty neat

I admit scanning the article, but did I miss what possible MSRP will be?

If this design catches on, all the manufacturers will have some variety.  I remember when Steam was all the rage.

Yet another gimmick and/or added feature to sell their washers and dryers.........how much would anyone use this feature? I'm also sure you pay dearly for it too! I would be happier if they simply made a dryer that reversed directions for equal amounts of time. That would be a truly useful feature!

It really does look very "inspired" by LG's washer, even down to how you add detergent via the top of the washer. The dryer reminds me of something Electrolux had over here a few years ago: you'd open the top of the dryer to reveal a perforated surface to flat-dry items on.

Hmmm. Well I think there is more than one of us here that has more than one washer and one dryer in our basements....

There is just me in the house yet I really like having a couple of washers to do laundry all at once.  Of course mine are full size, not sure about the small top washer, guess it's the equivalent of the LG pedestal  washer. I think the LG is bigger though.

Hm. I dunno if you should do that.

I suppose you might even lose your brazilian passport if they ever found out one of their citizens was on a *sex* strike for some unproven Samsung design.

At least give it six months to see if they'll *stay* on the market, instead of a quick recall.

;-)

This is what Whirlpool envisioned several years ago: a pull-out rack that would attach to the top of their condenser dryers to dry items in the warm exhaust air.

Simmilar could be achieved by simply placing a small drying rack in front of basicly any condenser dryer. They slide out of the way easy enough. I remember doing that on cleaning rag loads with some of those microfibre ones while the more cotton-like ones were in the dryer.

Paulo, come on...

have you never wanted something (even knowing it's a junk) only because it's cute?

I design appliances, remember? When I saw that Samsung I was instantly sure it is a POS (and I don't mean Point of Sale), but it is cool. Expensive as hell, won't last too long, it will probably end up exploding or the main subject on a huge recall operation, but it is cool and I want it.

The same happens to a vintage Maytag wringer or that stovetop kenmore. Everybody know using a wringer washer is a PITA (compared to any good automatic washer), but it's nostalgic and fun sometimes.

If I would use a wringer washer or that Samsung as my ONLY washer, that's a completely different story. I'd prefer a Magic Chef (because it's cheap and awesome for the price), but never a 2k dollars Samsung.

Btw, i'm still looking for a wringer in perfect conditions. Anybody?

Thomas:

I agree with most of what you say.

The part I'm poking fun at (because it's at odds with my experience) is the sex strike. That sounds somehow "too American" to me...

It's rare to see Brazilians run away from fun stuff. I've never heard of any of them on a sex strike and, I'm pretty sure if the brazilian government heard of such thing they might rescind your passport.

Also, please note the ;-) at the end of the post.

If I had to guess what a Brazilian *would* do in the situation is they'd not strike, they'd either promise (or threaten, depending on the couple) to *increse* sexual activity until they get their new toys. Might work better than the strike... ;-)

Cheers,
-- Paulo.
