Samsung Top Load Washer

On the weekend friends of mine moved into a new home they had designed & built so of course I had to go over yesterday and get the tour. Upon entry I noticed the Samsung washer & steam dryer in the laundry room. What does everyone think of the top loader? In the kitchen they have top of the line Kenmore appliances - full size side by side refrigerator and freezer - they are separate units but look like one unit, double wall ovens, dishwasher, microwave and an LG 5 burner gas (propane) cook top.

Well I have to say...

My room mate just got that Samsung washer, as his Whirlpool Cabrio died (thank god) after 5 years. I was frustrated to see it when it was delivered, but I do have to tell you all, It is much better than the Cabrio. It usus more water and the agitation is not rough and harsh as the Cabrio. I actually like this machine. Cycles are a little longer, but overall I'm pleased and it does a good job. Still wish he had gotten a front loader though.

I wish your friend the best of luck with it, but personally I'd never spend my own money on a top loader with no agitator. I have a GE version of this in my basement. The clothes barely get wet and there is little turnover. During a cycle the washplate spins underneath the clothes, but the clothes themselves don't move......

I prefer my vintage Maytag.

That's what I was thinking but I have never actually seen one in action so I have no experience with them.

I watched a few of the vids on youtube and can't say that I am impressed at all with this machine. I would much prefer a front loader or a non HE top loader.

I have a Cabrio also....not all that impressed.....

for a TL HE...give me a Calypso anyday....

At least the Calypso provides more agitation but I still don't see how you can get good rollover and cleaning when the machine is full but the clothes aren't completely doused in water?

at first I didn't think the Calypso's wash motion actually rolled the clothes over either......but I found out by accident thru a time lapse video I did once that the load does rotate counterclockwise and roll around....

the boucing is really gentle, as well as thorough, that concentrated detergent waterfall is a big help in keeping the load saturated.....there's roughly 3 gallons of water at work here per fill up, this is what I call efficient use of water, and very effective cleaning.....the WhitestWhites cycle is the best!....not to mention the HandWash is better than doing by hand in a sink....

best described as washing your hands, first you lather up, with a concentrate of soap and a little bit of water, rubbing together for some friction, and then flushing all the residue away with several rinses!

think of it as rinsing vegetables in a colandar under running water, and your tossing them around allowing the dirt and water run thru.....

an added help is anywhere from 3 to 4 rinses, plus spin sprays.....

once you play with one in person, you will fully understand why I think its one of the best HE TLers out there......

LG Wave Force

Hi everyone. I have the LG version of this machine. It replaced a New Maytag Bravos TOL that I owned for 4 months. I returned it after doing a huge load and getting some dry clothes after the cycle was finished. They didn´t get wet at all. I´ve owned the LG Wave Force for 3 years now and have performed more than beautiful since. It gets white clothes white, uses so little water, cycle is not so long, and washes huge loads perfectly without being so rough to clothes. I´ll post some videos later. I highly recommend this model. Easy to use. More than enough washing options. Easy on getting used to it. No special detergent needed. Great 20 min spin on the final spin. I simply love it!!!

Consumer Reports:  The Samsung WA50F9A8DSP scores a 74, which ranks high in their list of tested top-loaders.  It is rated Very Good at cleaning, Excellent for capacity, Good for noise, and Good for gentleness to fabrics.

 

For comparison's sake, the top-ranked top-loader is the LG 1101CW which has no back panel. The controls are on the front, as they were on several of the very first automatics. With a score of 77, it is rated Very Good at cleaning, Excellent for capacity, Very Good for noise, and Very Good for gentleness to fabrics.

my 2 cents

Firstly...I had a Samsung Aquajet WA456 Stainless. It looked nice but broke 6 times in 6 month It leaked, the motor and clutch broke and when it did work only waded so so.

I know own a Maytag Bravos MVWB850. I got this washer after Samsung refunded me after the motor died on the 456. The Maytag is now 7 mo old. Turnover is excellent and clothes are clean.

I would not waste time with Samsung or LG washers.

Consumer reports rated my WA456 high and it was garbage. LG also rates high but they were exploding. The LG's prior to 2014 were made with plastic basket hangers too..so dumb!!

I did not listen when folk said stay away from LG or Samsung and it bit me in the buttocks. I ran into a repair friend and he told me all he does is repair Samsung and LG appliances. He says the fail rate on these are about 25%!

Go to the Samsung US FB page and read for yourself. Stay clear of Samsung!!
