Hey y'all, just picked this Maytag dishwasher the other day. Saw it out of the corner of my eye on a driveway on my way to a friends house. Seems to work good! Am trying it out on the front porch right now, running some jet-dry cleaner through it. Didn't smell very good when I got it. A few rust spots will need some fixin and unclogged a few jets. Gonna take the pump apart later on and check the filter screen to make sure there aren't any problems with it. Does anybody know at which part of the cycle it heats to " Sani-Wash" temp?
I was surprised to find that is it direct drive instead of belt driven. Any info would be appreciated. Here is a link to a parts diagram for it.

John, the SaniWash button simply means on this dishwasher the heater is activated on all wash & rinse phases. it doesn't time delay until a set tempt is reach. You've found one of the last Maytags of this design, particularly since it doesn't have a belt-driven design on it.

hmmm, who would have thought??? I'm keeping it going on the light wash section to see how hot it is going to get. Put cold water in it and its up to about 130 now. Wish it had a high temp rinse, oh well, still a great find I think.

I have a model#WU600. Earlier than the one you found, it also has a DD system with the older console on it. The "Sani-Cycle" is very effective on my machine.

My machine has proven to be a good one---although I do miss the forced-air drying of a KitchenAid. The only complaint is the usual one for dishwashers: sometimes some of the flatware does not get clean. Oh, and one other thing: my machine will not hold the large pots my KitchnAid will hold because of the reverse rack arrangement. It does take a while to get used to loading them with this rack arrangement.
 
Regarding WU 600

I would LOVE to find a Maytag WU600. I haven't seen one in the Quad Cities here for years. I loved the simple design of the control panel...with the long row of buttons. I prefer the one with the "on" indicator light.

Was that on the later models? Some of the panels were bluish, while others were gray. I prefer the gray.
 
IMHO the best vintage.

My daily driver is a WU-200 that belongs to this generation of Jet-Clean DD Maytags. It's almost perfect(it's missing the temp boost option). It's quick, fairly quiet and I use it as a "Chef's dishwasher": the tines on the upper rack fold down and I can wash almost any pot, pan, agitator, appliance part, wastebasket, whatever in this thing. I am planning on pairing it with a DISH dishwasher, either a GE pull-out that I got from GregM or a KDS-17a that I need to reassemble(OK, don't hold your breaths too long). Somewhere I have the brochure for these things which I will scan and post if I ever get around to cleaning my office. I watched one of those HGTV shows recently where they renovated a kitchen that had one of these and replaced it with a new GE. What a waste!
 
I have a WU204 that was installed in June of 1990. It replaced a TOL KitchenAid (if only I knew then what I know now) and it hasn't had 1 repair in 17 years. It doesn't clean as well as the KitchenAid did, but it's most certainly a reliable machine!
 
This is my WU-601. This is the first of the belt-drive machines, but before fan-forced drying. It was never used when I picked it up - an ebay auction. Bought for a vacation home, it was never installed. I used it in the kitchen for about a year, now it's in the garage patiently waiting for the owner to decide on a machine to use in the new kitchen. The choices are: Maytag, a KDC-14 and a KDS-18. I like the Maytag because it holds a ton of stuff and there is no manual-clean filter as in the KDS-18.

sad news

Well I moved it into the house today and was running a full load. Stopped it to re- rinse so it would get hotter and I killed it. It could just be the motor relay, it did sound like it could be bad but the motor won't even hum now, so at least there are still parts available. Motor was pretty hot.
Hope to get some time to tear it down in a couple of weeks and see what's up with it.
