"In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It's no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism."

I have been clicking everywhere!
I love the Pit-bull with the lipstick instead of the Pig with the lipstick in the desk.
They are all too good!

LOL - Now this is funny...

Last night Minnesota Publius had posted this video on its website comparing The Penguin to McCain (on the right) and Batman of course on our left...

<object width=425 height=349><param name=movie value=></param><param name=allowFullScreen value=true></param><embed src= type=application/x-shockwave-flash allowfullscreen=true width=425 height=349></embed></object>

The clip, first uploaded in early 2007, has been picked up by several political commentators and compared to recent debates between Senators John McCain and Barack Obama.

Besides being an amusing clip on its own — the great Burgess Meredith turns in a virtuoso performance as the Bilious Bird — viewers have noted some chuckle-worthy parallels between this fictional debate and the real thing.

ah yes. I love the put downs of a sitting govenor (& the left and the main stream media can't call her that, just a mayor of a small town) while the kool aid drinking masses are voting for a racist coke head. America is great, ain't it?

As an American citizen Peter has every right

to believe whatever he wants to and vote for whomever he wishes. He also has every right to express his own opinion no matter what he bases it on.

When we deny others their opinions we are likely to become exactly what we ourselves claim to dislike-----so please everyone take a deep breath and stop attacking each other! This is exactly what this current administration has taught us to do!

My personal opinion is that this current administration and that scumbag Karl Rove in particular, caused terrible divides amongst Americans. They systematically, and for nothing more than political gain, turned Amercians of different beliefs and lifestyles against each other. In my opinion, an unforgivable act. That is not to say we don't have our prejudices---EVERYBODY has them. I'm just talking about the respect we used to have for each other that has been torn down for nothing more than political gain.

IMO America needs to heal. Colin Powell said it so well on Meet the Pricks the other day when he said we need a "generational change". I agree. I have an extreme dislike for our current two-party system and am sick of having to vote for the lesser of two evils.

Too bad it seems to be such a fantasy to think that "We the People" will ever have a real say in our government. IMO it is time for the "new generation" to have their say in things.

Peter is just as much a guest here as the rest of us and the

he has every right to voice his opinions and beliefs here. There have been several attempts to silence me from some of the killer queens (speaking of which, does anybody else smell a sock-puppet around here these days?) and Robert has not let them get away with it. We on the left need to treat Peter with respect...how does that go?...Oh, yes 'hate the viewpoint, love the guy posting it?', well, something like that.
I stopped discussing politics here (until after the election) because postings were becoming increasingly nasty, the atmosphere ever more toxic.
Something we all need to think about: Whoever wins this election, we are all going to have to get along over the next four years. If McCain and Palin win, all the liberals are not going to be able to leave the country and come live with me in Europe (nor can the Canadians produce enough white wine, the Swedes produce enough Volvos to keep you happy way up North.) If Obama and Co. win, the one-issue wingnuts and whackjobs can scream as much as they like, but in the end, the problems will still have to be resolved and the burden of this enormous debt carried...Even if they all move to Appalachia and secede, they will still be surrounded by a democratically Democratic US. The more hideous reactions some conservatives are threatening, I won't even think about.
The more divisive and hateful we all are, the harder it is going to be for whomever wins the election to rule. That, surely, is not in America's best interests?
On a more practical note, the whackjobs and wing nuts are beyond the reach of logic or facts. My impression of Peter and an awful lot of the undecided out there is they will go with whichever side convinces them their personal wealth is not in danger. He might be won over by rational argument, there's nothing in his writings to indicate he is a knee-jerk paleo-conservative. But the attacks from the whackjobs and wingnuts around here are the single biggest reason I would never, ever support the conservatives. Why should Peter's reaction be any different? Try respecting the other side's arguments and discussing, rationally, just why Obama is the lesser of two evils and who knows, someone might just come over to us on the dark side. Or, if not, at least they might not bear a grudge should we win, nor yet think "payback time!" should we lose.

Robert, thanks for that video link. I've always wondered how Karl Rove and other Republican strategists come up with these half-baked campaign tactics, and now we know: old Batman episodes. LOL

Go Batman!

I certainly hope Peter feels we are suppressing his opinion - or he won't keep coming back to needle us about our foolishness as he sees it unfold! It's good for all of us to see and hear differing opinions. Peter and I spoke a few weeks ago on the phone and politics didn't come up once, there were too many other things to catch up on. We are all friends here, most of whom have been for a long time. Most of us are mature enough to see that a political argument over policy, experience, campaign rhetoric or poking fun at Caribou Barbie's performance in the talent portion of the contest (hee hee) won't change our friendships that are based on far more than just this stuff. I used to go downtown with my grandfather to the barbershop quite often, not because we needed haircuts, but so he could spend time talking with some of his lifelong friends. Politics was usually a hot topic of discussion and some of the men wouldn't participate much, just sit quietly and read the paper or one of the gripping articles in the latest issue of Playboy. Tempers and voices would rise but over and over again I would see that if one of those guys my grandfather so vehemently disagreed with about politics needed the shirt off of his back, he would have handed it over without blinking an eye. For me, that was one of the examples of what it means to be a free-thinking American, a citizen of the world and a friend.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming:

Great Pictures and links!!!

Greg,
Thanks for your post about feelings and such.
I agree with you on everything that you said.
I want to apologize to anyone (especially Peter) if I stepped on your toes. That was not my intention, and wanted to sound funny.
I think when we sit around in person shooting the crap with people we know, we can say what we want, and it is usually taken with a grain of salt, because we know that person, and their ways. When you put the same feelings into writing, it is not interpreted the same way, especially if you don't know the person.
So, to me all of the politic stuff is just in fun to me. I laugh my head off at most of the post.
Although I have my hope for Obama to win, I know that we all, will be in a economic crunch for quite a time. So I make the best of it and try to have fun.
