Satellite Dish for TV

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I had DirecTv for 4 years and never had a technical problem with the reception...I canceled it about a month ago now that I have DTV converters for digital television reception. There is no cable where I live and the analog TV over the air reception was not great...now that I can get clear good quality digital reception of local channels and public television I canceled DirecTV.
The cable networks are now putting in so many advertising logos and junk in shows and the price went up on DirecTV that I figured it would be cheaper to just get DVD sets of TV shows or movies I like that are not on over-the-air TV plus the quality would be better!

I have had Dish Network since we moved to this house, five years ago. Only time we loose signal is in an extreme hard rain. No problems with wind, or just a normal rain. Picture and sound are so much better than over the air tv. Many of our neighbors had reception and service problems with Direct TV out here and have switched to Dish. They tell me that Dish customer service is superior to the service they received from Direct TV. So far I am a happy customer. But, I am waiting with baited breath for cable to finally come to our neighborhood. A small cable company is rewiring the township, and supposedly the whole township will get cable when they are complete. I am anxious to see what they will offer.

Our house is surrounded by redwood trees and a hillside to the south and west. We would love to dump Comcast and go with DISH or DirecTV, but that's not an option for us.

We haven't had any reception or customer service issues with Comcast, but their "standard" channel lineup stinks. Even channels like HGTV that are included in standard packages from most other providers are not available with Comcast, unless you pay for one of their far more expensive digital packages. It's a complette ripoff.

Update on the dish

Sorry I have not posted since last week. I've been on jury duty this week. YIPPEE! I was picked Monday for a criminal trial that ended yesterday. Must report back tomorrow morning for another trial at 9:00am to last thru Friday.

Anyway we (my wife more then me) decided not to get the dish at this time. I called and talked to Dish network people they wanted to go ahead and send out the Tech just to see if we could get a signal. But my wife was afraid she might miss some Braves baseball action and had me cancel before they came to the house.

Saturday night I found out my buddy down the street has had Dish network for three years now. They like us are surronded by trees but get excellant reception no outrages nothing. It kind of pissed me off that I let her talk me out of it. But I guess I can always do it later.

Thanks a lot for all the information and opinions everyone posted regarding satellite versus cable.

Peace and blessings,
David
