I went and picked a load of trade ins today from one supplier,a small town Maytag dealer.
The owners son was telling me they are going to become a Whirlpool dealer, with the Maytag buyout and everything. Then he told me that he attended a Whirlpool service school last week. The Whirlpool people told the people attending the school, that once the current supply of Maytag branded appliances are gone, the Maytag brand will cease to exist. No more Maytag.
He didn't mention Amana,or some of the others, like Magic Chef,or Jenn Air. I wonder if that goes for them, too.

That kind of sucks.

But....I guess they were Whirlpools anyway. The main thing is, as long as collectors like us are around there WILL be Maytags. Better than new ones anyway. =)

The Whirlpool people told the people attending the school, that once the current supply of Maytag branded appliances are gone, the Maytag brand will cease to exist. No more Maytag.
I have to ask then, why was the KA Ensemble rebranded as Maytag and just now released to the market?

IMO i think the Maytag name has lots of life left. certainly more prestige and recognition than *roper* or *hotpoint*. the duet rebadge is an excellent start. the duet is having the success that neptune should have. and the Maytag name lends itself so much better to laundry products than Kitchenaid. though the neptune was an undisputed disaster, and directly contributed to Maytags failure, do remember that thousands of people STILL have those familliar centerdials and 80s brown-buttons and 90s dependable care models doing their work to this day! many people (like my mother) still would not consider buying anything but Maytag for their wash.

I thought I heard...

that Whirlpool was going to design a retro looking Maytag machine with the familiar center dial look again. I think it was in a thread in the Deluxe forum. Was I dreaming this?

Strangely enough...

This might be a good thing for Maytag fans, if another company (think Frigidaire) bought the rights to the name.
