This came up in another thread and UniRobert kindly explained how to save a picture if you use a PC. Here's how to do it if you are a Mac user:

1. Press and hold the apple key (just to the left of the space bar) and the left shift keys with two fingers of your left hand.

2. Press the '4' key and release all three keys. A 'target' cursor will replace the standard 'arrow' cursor.

3. Position the target cursor at the top left corner of the picture you want to save. Press and hold the mouse while you drag the cursor across the top of the picture you want to save. Then drag the cursor down to the bottom of the picture. The area which has turned grey will be captured (saved) when you release the mouse button.

4. The saved picture will appear on your desktop marked Picture 1. Double click on it to open it.

Macs are easier to use...

On a Mac:

To save an image from a web browser, just drag it to the Desktop (or to whatever folder or disk you want to put it in.)

Really?

You can click and drag an image to the desktop in Windows Also.

To right click and save as in the Mac world, my understanding is that in IE you should hold down shift, click on the image, and you will get a context menu from which you can select save as.

I can right-click and Save Image to the desktop (or other folder of choice), but dragging out of the browser window doesn't work. Maybe that's because I'm using Firefox, not IE.

Some Clarity

If you have any two button mouse plugged into the Mac (including Apple Mighty-Mouse), right click and save-as.

If you are a one-buttoner, Control+Click is the same as right click.

Or drag image to the desktop as stated above.

(Hey Mac Users, here's a cool easter egg: apple+option+ctrl+8)

Well, this certainly proves I should NEVER, EVER offer computer advice, LOL! When I got my computer a couple of months ago, someone showed me how to do a screen image capture, so that's the only way I knew to save a photo. Plus, my 4-step procedure was overkill---it only takes 2 seconds to do.

Thanks for the other tips, guys!

HOLY PSYCHEDELIC FLASHBACK! Cadman, I just tried the 'easter egg' thing. Thank god all I had to do was repeat the procedure to go back to normal. What a trippy trick!

I was wondering why there are buttons on the left and right sides of my mouse. I'll have to try the 'right click' trick.

Once again, people who know very, very little about computers learn something new everyday, LOL!

I had NO freaking idea you could right click and drag a photo right off the screen. How simple! I just dragged a bunch of photos from the site onto my desktop for kicks.

Any other easy/fun tricks, Cadman? Ever think of offering a mini-course in Macs on the Super forum?

Macs easy to use? NOT!

Dennis and I bought the very first of the lovely brightly colored iMacs. It was easy to use and I loved it. When the iMac G5 came out, Dennis wanted one so we got it. I hate the new iMac. The old one was much better. That is just my opinion anyway. I would rather interface with a washer anyhow...

partscounterman--- The only computer I've ever used is a Mac, so I have nothing to compare it to. I have a lowly eMac on my desk at work and a 4-month old iMac at home. I'm not at all computer savvy and I find them pretty easy to use and generally idiot-proof. Generally. What don't you like about the G5?

Well, its hard for me to put into words as I am not a computer person-heck, I'm lucky to be on the net at all. It just seemed like the old iMac was so simple to figure out and I just have a more difficult time with this G5. Maybe its just me, but I like a PC better these days.

I'm gonna go play with my washer now-I can relate to that!

Apple IIe's for everyone!

Well, maybe not. We should all be happy we don't have to type into a prompt to check this site - we'd lose all the fun!

That trick was really cool Cory, I had not tried it till now.

Mac Lover Here

I work in computers. I love coming home to my old red iMac. It has NEVER crashed. I revved it up to 1GB RAM, added "Panther" (OS 10.3.9), and an external 300GB Drive. It is great machine that will not die.

At work, during the life of the Mac, I have been through 3 PC's.

IMHO.

Where I work, we have both Macs and PCs (Dells and Gateways). The Macs are by far the more reliable machines, says our tech guy. In fact, he has switched to using a Mac at home. However, most of the Mac users at work who have PCs at home prefer their PCs because there are more programs/games available for them and have better expansion capabilities.

You can left click and drag an image to the desktop in Windows Also.

I never knew you could do that, I just tried it and it works perfectly. Thanks Nathan!
