I was invited to join a new group on Flickr, Sears World. The group is for pictures from Sears stores. This is what came up on the photo page:

"There aren't any photos in the Sears World pool."

"Since you're a member, you can contribute photos to the pool. There are a few different ways to do this, so check out Groups FAQ about contributing to a group pool to find out how."

Thought it was worth a chuckle.

You very well could....

Rush on over to Dead Malls Dot Com, and download a few pictures of abandoned Sears stores to upload to their site. =)

No one said they had to be.....shoppable! =P Did they?

I love the old Sears!!! When I lived in Minneapolis, there was a fabulous old Sears south of downtown that was a deco dream (I think it's gone now) and here in Seattle, we have the oldest continuously operating Sears. The majority of the building is now Starbucks HQ, but the retail store soldiers on.

North of town, we have a true 50's Sears in one of the early malls, and the door handles still have the cool cursive logo with the huge "S"

The link has a view of the downtown Seattle Sears back in the 1920's. The store is still on the left hand side, but the tower is now Starbucks, and there is an additional building on the right hand side (added back when the whole complex was part of the catalog operation)
