Help Support :

A video or 3 or 4 will be along soon.

Tim- Thanks! Yeah, I finally got out of the dryer but I had to go back to the other side to retrieve a few missing socks.

Modern Soft heat Brent

Brent, I have noticed on the newest Whirlpool, Maytag dryers (the ones that come with the new direct drive WP frontloaders made here in the U.S.) appear to have temperature settings/cycles which shift from a starting heat level (high or medium) and change to the next lower setting as the load dryes.  From what I remember, the only exception to this is the sanitize or towels cycle, which keeps the machine at high temp heat through the whole drying cycle.  when I saw that it kinda did remind me of the SoftHeat, but more so from my 1986 LK dryer which shifted temp to low the last 5 or so minutes of the heated portion of a cycle.

<span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: medium;">Interesting Bob.</span>

<span style="font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: medium;">Wonder if it is a "Modulating" type of heat as John Described, or if it is just the dryer changing the heat of the drum with the heat source totally shutting on / off as usual.</span>

<span style="font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: medium;">Seems like my HE3T gas dryer does this.  Starts off high then drum temp kicks down as the clothes dry.  </span>

Newer soft heat

The newer Soft Heat turns on the thermostat heater so that the final exhaust temps are slowly lowered. If it's a computer controlled dryer then it's controlled by the thermistor.

Some of the later dryers ( Resource Saver, Cabrio, Oasis, etc) also have a dual element heater. The R.S. dryer would run both heaters until target temps were reached and then continue drying on the lower wattage element.

The Cabrio/Oasis being computer controlled can use any combination for the different cycle settings but they too ultimately cycle the heat on and off.

Hey Jason I remember seeing those beauties in Beltsville they are stunning in your home !

What a great pair !

I first saw that style in the early seventies at Sears when my mom would let me venture.

The model you have had the lights on they where fantastic, and the mid to bol models had the control dial in the middle.

I called it the slim series they all had slim panels until  you see the back.

I'm waiting with anticipation for inside and your modifications wishing you the best on your project Jason !

Any hint how fast the spin is going to be ?

<span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: medium;">Jason,</span>

<span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: medium;">Thanks for your description of the "New Soft Heat".  I had a feeling</span>

<span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: medium;">that this is what was going on.</span>

<span style="font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: medium;">I noticed on "Timed Dry" the heat stays the same through out.</span>

Interdimensional Portal

You're a brave man to step into a dryer for a stray sock. I stuck my head in a Maytag once and ended up in 1973. You never know what will happen. I even found Bruce Campbell in there once.

...and here I thought I' seen everything...

I've never seen a set like that before, but then my memory cells are disappearing faster than HAL's in "2001." It's really a very attractive pair. Lily Tomlin did a skit years ago about being an impulse buyer...she said "I would buy anything on the shelf at eye-level...I would even buy fresh bread and day-old bread the same day." I'm like that with anything that's lighted. It's really a terible disease to have. I kinda think a lot of the other members on here got bitten by the same bug.

biggerized and fasterized 65 LK

I built that 65 LK 10+ years ago. I think there was a thread on it, but it would be in the original Yahoo group under this screen name or HQOTS.

Midnight here right now

Nice bedtime chuckle--worth the wait--a master surprise--who would have guessed! You better call the patent office.

Gobsmacked

I had no idea such a thing was possible.  How do you prevent water from splashing out around the top of the tub without a sealed lid?  Does cycle sequencing work just like a Kenmore?  This is insane!  You are wonderfully mad!

Greetings from the Philippines!

Hey Jason, what a beautiful KM set, they look to be in incredible condition!

But what a surprise, the skin of a beautiful early 70's Kenmore set, but the heart of a Kelvinator! WOW, who'da thunk it! Dr, Frankenstein is still alive!

Kevin

P.S. This isn't a 3 week late April fools prank, is it? Haha, just asking.

Well, I never remembered the agitator in my friend's avocado set looking like THAT!!!!

Is it really the ORIGINAL???? As I've said, the dials didn't light up, nor did the drum of the dryer...

Blown bulb replacement was not a priority, nor was the use of Perm. Press, Delicate cycles etc. or even making use of the Fabric Master (is it an Electronic Sensor?--I recall that dryer actually HAVING it--Yes! --Maybe?) "Auto Dry", or even washing anything less than a "Hi" load--and I'm sure the Bleach/Fab. Soft. Disp. never got more than a couple uses when the machines were new--if that! Same probably goes for the "Cold Water Option", and in that case, why was the End-Of-Cyc. signal on the highest setting? Their laundry was right in the kitchen, (no basement) same level as the rest of the house!

Lastly, I even asked my friend to purposely unbalance the load so it would stop & buzz angrily at us--but he didn't... I can still hear the "whiiish, whiiish", that the "whistling" of that agitator (not really the one that's in YOURS! --Or WAS IT?) made!
