Just being nosey around the Sears site, and noticed that their detergent is available to be shipped internationally.  Which variety is the best, and am I right in thinking that the general consensus is that it is a pretty good detergent?  £12.48 for 125 loads seems pretty good, even with shipping I would imagine.

Cheers,

Jon

Quite a few of us have tried and like the formula in the orange box. It has a light citrus scent that almost completely disappears when laundry is dried. It is also very good at shifting stains, and soil in general. A very good all-purpose detergent that is safe to use in coloured loads also.

Orange Box....

....I haven't seen the orange box online for a while now. I had to buy the one in the green box last time and it seems to be working quite well too. I haven't noticed any difference on my clothes.

Bargan alert

The Sear's add in Sunday's paper had the 180 load Orange box 50% off.  $11.99.  Sale runs through Friday.

I was pondering as I was walking through Big-Kmart Sunday.  They have Kenmore appliances now, why don't they stock the Ultra Plus Detergent?  It 's easier for me to go to Kmart than the mal,

More mindless wondering and editorializing and opinion.  Sear's biggest mistake was to give up their stand alone locations for the Anchor spots in the mall.  The mall just sucks too much business from a multi-department store like Sear's, the now dead Montgomery Wards.

Sears Holdings in 2005 is the merger of Sears and Kmart

Kmarts carry some Sears brands since Sears Holdings owns both Sears Roebuck and Kmart

I knew K-Sears were the same. This is why I was wondering why they aren't carrying Ultra Plus on their detergent isle. They had washer/dryers and freezers lined up with Kenmore names Sunday. Why not convenience items?

They seem to be moving toward terrible Kenmoreclean! labeling so methinks it's only a matter of time till Kmart gets in on the detergent action.

I'm currently using the orange box stain fighter formula.  Over the years that I've been using this detergent, I'm probably on my 3rd go round with it.  (I kept one of the last platic pales it came in too).  I also used the formula with the OxyClean in it, but went back to the current one.

what I would like to know.............

will it perform well in a quick wash in a euro machine? I figure as it is designed for US machines and shorter wash cycles it will perform well. I checked out the Sears site, I can get a 125 wash carton of the green box variety for £12.89 plus shipping. Cheaper than I can buy 125 washes in the UK. I realise I would have to buy oxi-bleach to add in with whites, but that doesn't add much to the cost. I did look at the Sears Ultra with fabric softener added but that costs a mint to ship for some reason.

For the US guys....how well does the Sears liquid perform?

Sears Detergent

Hi. I've used Sear's detergents (different types - whichever one was on sale usually) and they are a fine product. I know that Sears usually farms out to other manufacturers for their private label stuff - it sure smells like Tide to me. but without all the fluffy texture of Tide. It seems like it's more concentrated though than Tide is and you really have to use much less than they recommend. Remember, they're in business to sell products, not have you use them spareingly. (Is the Scot in me showing here guys?)

I've also been using for the past few years a detergent called "BANG" which is marketed by a local store in my area called "Mills Fleet Farm". It costs about $10.95 for a 40 lb plastic tub when it's on sale and does a great job on cleaning. And you keep getting new buckets to use too as you use the detergent up. I use it in both my FL machine as well as the wringer (albeit very ocassionally). I use less than one small scoop (maybe about 1/4 of a cup per wash load). It's pretty economical.

Just had a quick look on the sears site, and the shipping is £12.91 plus £2.07 Duty+VAT. Total is £27.37.

Seems pricey initially, however you do get 125 loads, and it does seem to be very good value for what your getting.

Just checked on the larger 275 wash box, and the shipping cost stays the same just the duty and VAT rises to around £3.49. Not bad pricing, may be tempted when my bank balance re-settles after the car insurance payment lol.

Very true, and car insurance (mega ouch to me! £148 a month! lol) ... I know what you mean about it being a lot of dosh to spend on something you may not like. Caught between a rock and a hard place really!

Bloody hell......

Washboy, what kind of car do you have to pay that much insurance? I thought mine was bad for a 2L Mondeo but what you pay is shocking!!!!

Jim,

The Sears detergent is made by DeSoto Chemical. It was originally (several decades ago) a unit of Sears. In addition to the detergent, they made Sears paint. Several years ago the paint division was sold off, mostly to Sherwin-Williams who now is the manufacturer of Sears paint.

DeSoto Chemical

Thanks for that information. My dad always swore by Sears paint. Over the years I've used the Sears Weather Beater on my parents house several times. I've used their interior paint also but I can't recall the name of their best interior paint.
