I have a quick question. Is the Sears Ultra Plus powder in the orange box the
detergent everyone has raved about? It's marked down and I can get a great deal on it.

Yes it is.   If it's at the twice a year, 50% off sale, buy it!   A couple years (3-4?) ago I bought 6 boxes.  

 

It works great in HE machines and generates almost zero suds.

 

I hear they are discontinuing it for some reason.

Great! I just scored a 180 load box for $3.99 ($11.99 less $8.00 in bonus points).

Per the salesman, it's not technically being discontinued but being replaced by smaller packages for inventory reasons. Not sure what that means...

no more, no less.I did not do any justice to dirty rags I washed. It does have low suds and for some, that may be important in a FL machine.

I found it to be pretty awful to tell you the truth. No suds, which was nice, but terrible cleaning in a front loader, no scent of any kind left after the wash, and it left the clothes streaked with residue and feeling really scratchy. It will NOT dissolve in cold or lukewarm water either. It was actually completely hardened in the dispenser after cold/warm cycles. I gave it away to friends of mine when I got tired of it, and this was probably 3-4 years ago; they left it on the shelf in their laundry room when they moved last month. I wouldn't waste your money.

I've had great success with it........

Even though I have a middle aged Maytag Dependable Care (1997,) I hate excess sudsing, and I have found it to be effective against my usual dirt....

I used it, and was one of the worst detergents I have ever used....
It stank in the wash, it didn't clean, no scent left....All about soda...not even some normal suds ( a fair amount expected from european and american low foam powder, but nothing, just looked all soda etc) No more!!!!
