Been out of town for the past month staying/working at a relatives. They have a Sears Elite TOL TL machine, a year or two old.  Has every option including Steam.  Got to say it was the biggest POS I've ever used.  I was washing small loads, and what it did most of the time was slowly spin.  Occasionally the wash plate would go into action, but just mostly spin.  I can't say anything came out really clean.  I will say the time I tossed in a comforter that got covered in dust on the bedding cycle it did fill almost to the top with water, but the wash action was poor at best.  Is this a Samsung build?

I'm a total convert to FL at this point.  My FL turn out nice clean loads time after time, and the steam cycle will get things really clean.  I see no advantage to the wash plate system, I think it exists solely to placate those who have to have a TL machine or were scared off year ago by "smelly" FL units - a non issue anymore.

It is probably LG. Samsung hasn't done much for Kenmore for a while, from what the rep was telling us. And the mostly spinning thing sounds like that horrible pointless waveforce 'feature'....

LOL I love this post. It is my sentiments exactly. Top load machines as we have known them, are a thing of the past now. You just can't do the same thing with a top load machine as a front loader since the new energy controls are in place. A thimble full of water to wash in a top load machine just doesn't work. Oh yeah, and there are speed queen machines, but they hold much less than a large capacity front loader and use a LOT more water. Not all that terrific either and cost a LOT more too. Join the 21st century. Before much longer, there will probably be no more top load machines.

Yes, LG,

The only non Whirlpool HE top loading Kenmore not Whirlpool sourced.
LG also makes the highest end Elite front loaders with the squared off doors, and the variable stepped wash action gimmick.
Samsungs are rated much better for top loaders than LG.
Unless LG changed their design by now, they use a plastic or nylon suspension rod anchor in the top of the cabinet and they were failing at high unbalanced spin speeds.
Samsung uses a two part metal and nylon anchor.
A front load machine may seem like it washes better, but they also wear out bearings sooner. Ask a service tech.
If you want your clothes submerged in water in an HE top loader, use the hand wash, or bulky cycle. You can also use Normal, and a second rinse, which has a first deep rinse, and a second spray only rinse.

That model is (was) made by LG. It has since been discontinued, at least here in the US. Even the "bread box" machines made by LG are not listed on the website any longer. Just the Cabrio design machines are left...and they are probably better in performance anyhow.

The HE Top Load LG branded Kenmore machines have been gone from the store for a while now.  I noticed when in our local store and although some of the pics were still on the site for decoration, the machines were all gone.

I'll bet Sears took at least a brand reliability/reputation hit from the exploding top loaders when LG was having all those problems and a good percentage of the half-million recalled washers were Kenmore branded.  That would be enough to drop the product.  Well, that and imminent corporate bankruptcy.

I'm getting  a bit warmer on the HE top load washers.  I'm hearing good things about Samsungs, LGs and Whirlpools.  Time will tell.

Ok, LG.  It looked more like Samsung to me.  It did have a stainless tub, did not examine the wash plate though.

AS I said it did fill to the top when doing the comforter.  It was patterned so I was able to see just how well the wash action was.  The center section rarely went under the water and moved, the outer edges did have a moderate amount of movement.  I found it interesting there was no roll over , I kept waiting to see the center portion pulled under and re positioned but it only happened once or twice during the whole wash cycle.  My relative commented that they were not happy with the machines.

Funny thing.  We were doing some work and had turned off the cold water, the machine kept throwing an E1 error code.  I kept resetting the machine, even unplugged it for a while and it still did it.  Finally we dug out the plastic coated card that came with the machine and it noted that code was if one of the water valves failed or was shut off.

re; Samsung top loaders

Matt, my sister has one, a few years now, and it is still doing a great job.
She told me the digital display has gone dim, but it works just fine.
