I think the Sears catalogue phrase was " styling to complement any brand or model of washer" been a long time though, but something like that anyway. arthur

I bought this dryer for $20 when I got out of college, and it was a big amount of money. You all know that scene. Either go party, or get a dryer.
Anyway, I used for about 6 years, and sold it for $75 at a yard sale when I moved to Tennesee. So long ago.

Very good at drying big loads, and very soft on fabric.

I own this dryer in electic at the lake. It does work really well with large loads and nice to fabrics. It is getting squeaky, methinks it needs the new roller wheels and pully thingy. Was there ever a mathcing washer in this ramp console design?
 
I don't ever remember there being a match to this dryer. All I remember is this dryer was kinda set in the cataloge all by itself in relation to the other dryers, to differentiate itself as the dryer that went with everything.
 
Thanks! It would have made one kickass cool washer design,,can you imagine the set together? The upsweep console to the left of the control panel is linen textured on my dryer. My console is stainless brushed steel and the start button is white. Wonder where the yellowish comes from in the posted photo? A design very easy on the eyes, and not common, or copied for it's time,that I can remember.
 
I have seen this dryer with the mini hamper door as well

When I was growing up my next door neighbor Mrs. Catchings had the gas version of this dryer and my neighbor behind me, Mrs. Sample, had the electric version and both of theres had the mini hamper door. Originally they were both pared with one of those ugly mid 1970's Kenmore washers that had the real cheap looking plastic panels.I too think it is a shame there is no matching washer for this style of dryer because I think that design is so cool. When my next door neighbors moved in in 1987 or early 1988, they had a center-dial kenmore asher and one of these dryers, with full-width hamper door. I think they got theirs in the very early 70s at the latest befcause it had the metal door handle. Had wrinkle guard, soft heat, and possibly was electronic sensor controlled. They had that set up until about 7 or 8 years ago (at the most). It was a good dryer. They were both still running when they replaced them with matching WP pair.
 
I saw one of those at the salvation army long long ago (5 years) it was in really nice shape..Seems like though, the 1972 or 1974 Sears Catolog i have, had a nice washer similar to this one.... But then i could be imagining things...
 
That's My Old Dryer!

That's the Kenmore dryer my mother bought to replace the worn out "bug eye" Kenmore in our garage. Because it had a small scratch/dent, she got it for $120 at Sears in 1972 (gas model). I didn't mind the control panel, since the washer was in the house. It did a good job. Eventually sold it. Nice machine, though.
 
Chad, there was a washer that was similar to this, but it also had a very matching dryer. Austin briefly had this washer I"m referring to. It had a similarly sloped console. It was metach/chrome looking. The side whre the controls were, could be covered with a sliding door. The washer was one of those "alphabet" washer, letters A-G had preset selections for the cycles. There aws also a water level knob as well as a knob to allow auto water temp selection, cold rinse always, or cold water wash period. There was also a rocker switch for an optional 2nd rinse and had timed bleach & fabric sosftener dispensers. This may have been like a 1969 model or so. A buddy of mine from college, his mom had this machine. And it was abused. A BobLoad, that would have been a "small" load for what this woman put into this machine. And by the time I got around to heaering it, aorund 1974 early 19765, the machine was having a difficult time locking into agitation. It would begin to make a bad noise and stop agitating. Her solution? Stop & start it until it acted the way it was intended. I felt very sorry for that machine. The matching dryer was very nicely featured for the time and included the same sliding console cover.
 
I saw one of these gas versions at an estate sale here a couple of years back, except that it had the small hamper door. It really wasn't in bad shape, and ran quietly when I fired it up. There was no washer, just an empty spot by the hookup...would have been interesting to see what sat next to it, as the entire house was a "time-warp" all around.

I wish they had a matching washer to these; that would have been ultra-cool. The closest Kenmore ever got to that was the "Silhouette" hidden-control machines. I had the washer in Avocado Green a year ago and it looked fine from the outside, but it was in sad shape mechanically with some horrible spin bearing problems that I didn't know how to fix. I did keep the control panel though as it was in nice shape, but unfortunately fried it in one of my Frankenmore experiments-gone-awry...the harness connectors didn't match up. :(

I would like to find another one someday, in better condition. They are cool machines. And if I found the electric version of this dryer, I'd grab it in a heartbeat!
 
I couldn't find any individual shots of the '68 Kenmore I had (they're probably somewhere in the Archives), but here's an OLD (well, old considering how bare the walls were and what it looks like today) Studio shot with the machine in question to the left. Notice the sliding control cover. In addition to that machine going to washer heaven, the Frankenmore (in white) has moved on to a new home in Louisiana, but the harvest gold 1-18 and WO-65-2 Unimatic are still there!

Yeah, mine has the hamper door with a metal handle to open and a stainless steel and linen like dash. This little treasure, as well a Frigidaire Poppy red 1-18, was left by the owner when I bought the lake house. Also she left a top of the line Amana electric(yuk, but alas,no gas out there,and it is pretty)range. This old lady had great taste in appliances, and also the furnace, water heater, is top of the line, pump and plumbing. Really on top of the mechanicals! BUT, You should have seen the ugly furniture and wallpaper: Elvis goes Early American/Geriatric/ on crack! And they wanted to leave it all! When I was cleaning after the closing and went to the attic, I found her liquor stash she kept hidden from her children, nothing but the best, Chivas,Beefeater,Glen Livet. Turns out that asking around she was a tough old bird that could count cards and had many poker parties on her front porch overlooking the lake, but fell down a lot in her later years. I wonder where she hid the cash? But you did not hear that from me, cause I'm not one to gossip!
 
I will find that catalog whenever i get down to my storage unit in South Carolina over christmas (in my moms yard)..
That kinda sounds like it, but i could've sworn, there was a BOL, bare bones Kenmore in there that was around $229 ish range.. Must find that book
