jim the trucker delivered my sears kenmore roto rack portable last nite and i immediately tore into it. i wanted to see how rusted the tub and sump were and what shape the pump was in.

i found a seal and impeller kit on the web for 20 bucks and ordered it. i was origionally afraid parts might not be available.

all in all it's not in bad shape, dirty, but not really that bad. it will clean up nice and with new impellers and a seal it will run like new.

on with the picture show here! here it is sitting in my work room.

top roto rack looks great!!!

it's one of my favorite designs!!! love listening to it spin during wash as they usually squeak a bit as they turn.

and

another.

note wash tube in back is missing the supply tube that runs up the back wall of the tub and feeds it.

another

pic of it. i will try to buy a new one but if they are not available i will improvise with pvc pipe probably, or a hose.
all in all i'm not worried about it.

wash impeller

is also broken but a new one will come with the seal kit. i could prob still use this one if i had to.

gasket that goes in tub

will be replaced. if i can't get a new one i will make my own. you can buy rubber to make them at auto parts stores or home depot.

i remember that

plastic baffle with the holes in it from the d&m modern maid machines i used to look at as a teen. but i never knew what the purpose of it was. i assumed it was decorative only. if anyone knows, please let me know

the tub

is dirty and the sump looks all rusted, but it is very light actually. a lot of rust stains but the metal itself is still quite good!

a

better view.

i'm going to clean it up and wire brush the rust and paint it with rustoleum primer and then a couple coats of rustoleum paint. that should do the trick.

i'm going to stop here

and flip machine over to remove motor and i will post some more pics in about an hour of the underneath and motor itself and the drain pump. motor seems good, turns very quietly and smoothly, the man who gave this machine to me said it worked fine last time he used it.

be back later......................

Looks like you're going to be busy for a while working on this one.

Great Pictures. That Roto-Rack sure is in great shape!

Keep us updated on your progress.

a bit rusty

but what the heck! it's prob 35 years old! and a wire brush on the drill will really help.
